The Bottleneck, 737 N.H., has made its name as an historic venue for indie rock, the site of an early Nirvana performance and countless others. But with a new management team in place, the club is sprucing up its image as a venue and a local hangout, employee Hannah Blodgett said.
The bathrooms have been cleaned up, the sound system updated, pool tables moved, a project added and a new sign erected.
“There are a lot of people who hang out here,” she said. “But I still think a lot of people don’t know we’re open at 3 every day. We want more of those people.”
And tonight, the Bottleneck is also adding a kind of social media rewards plan — the Star Card. Cardholders get notifications of exclusive concert announcements, ticket giveaways and discounts. See the video embedded below, staring Bottleneck and Team Bear Club collective cohort Rob Schulte, for more on the merits of the card, which will change every day with reward deals announced via Facebook.
Blodgett said it’ll be distributed free to everyone who comes to tonight’s (also free) event, a party put on by Team Bear Club — a collective of Lawrence musicians (think: hip-hop, dance and lots of bright colors).
The "Goomba Rave" event is at 9 p.m.
