Group hosting concert to raise funds for pianos

The Music Clubhouse is making music to make funds. The clubhouse is hosting the Celebrate America Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Swarthout Auditorium in Murphy Hall on the Kansas University campus.

Paul Laird, KU professor of musicology, will emcee the program, and the Music Clubhouse students, teachers, friends and alumni will perform. The concert will feature music by American composers and will have a finale performance of “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

The concert is part of an effort to raise $30,000 for three new pianos. The Music Clubhouse owner Janet Johnson said the goal is to raise $6,000 this year to purchase the first new piano. It has raised $5,000 since March.

Tickets cost $6 and may be purchased at the door or in advance at MusicClubhouse.com.

Why don't you make a video of the concert and put it on the Internet?
