Orchestra presents annual Baroque by Candlelight concert

The Lawrence Chamber Orchestra will present its 16th annual Baroque by Candlelight concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont St.

Countertenor Jay Carter and the Lawrence High School Chamber Orchestra also will perform in the show, which will feature music by Vivaldi, Bach, Handel and the world premiere of Erin Tomkins’ “Dreaming.”

Tickets are $25, or $20 for seniors and $10 for students and children, and admission includes a dessert reception following the performance. To purchase tickets, go online to lawrencechamberorchestra.org or call 785-760-5195.

Ticket sales from the concert are an important part of the orchestra’s annual fundraising.

“The orchestra is still struggling with the loss of funding from the Kansas Arts Commission which has negatively impacted the orchestra,” orchestra president Anthea Scouffas says in a news release. “The loss of this money for some of the larger organizations in our community has been a nuisance; for smaller arts organizations like the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra, the loss has been significant.”
