This spring’s Kansas Public Radio membership drive was not only the station’s first drive to take a day off for breaking news coverage but also its first drive to raise more than $300,000.
KPR ended its spring membership drive Monday morning with $305,306 in pledges in 10 days, several thousand dollars more than the $300,000 goal, according to a Kansas University news release.
On the first day of the membership drive, KPR suspended fundraising to carry National Public Radio's daylong breaking news coverage of the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects. As a result, the membership drive was extended by one day.
Donations directly support KPR’s local and national programming. KPR, licensed to Kansas University, broadcasts on 91.5 FM in Lawrence and online at kansaspublicradio.org.
