'Genius of Women' benefit variety show to celebrate beauty of womanhood

The eighth annual “Genius of Women” variety show celebrating the beauty and dignity of womanhood Friday will serve as a benefit for a rescue center for children and shelter for child mothers in Diocese of Malindi in Kenya.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Kansas Room in the Kansas Union, the program will include a various music, poetry, dance and other performance acts by students who will present original works of art. Sponsored by St. Lawrence Institute for Faith and Culture, the inspiration for the show’s mission came from writings by Pope John Paul II on the great value of women and the crucial roles they play in society.

Last year the show raised more than $300 for Family Promise of Lawrence, attracting nearly 125 attendees. While the event is free and open to the public, they will be accepting donations throughout the night.
