Spring is here, finally

It's hard to follow the nicest day of the year so far, but we'll try: Sunday's beautiful Easter weather will roll into (pretty much) more of the same to start the work week. A high of 75 with scattered thunderstorms this afternoon will lead us into high temps of 72, 80, 75 and 79 Tuesday through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Library warning

No, you don't have any late fines to pay (we hope), but here's a friendly reminder for patrons of the Lawrence Public Library. They'll be temporarily closing shop starting April 28, a week from today, to implement a new bar code technology. But it should just take a couple days for the intrepid library staff to get through thousands and thousands of items and reopen by the first week of May. Pretty impressive.

Solemn vigil

Finally, several Lawrence congregations will gather at 7 tonight for an "Interfaith Vigil For Community, Solidarity and Hope" at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive, in the wake of last week's fatal shootings in Overland Park. The service will feature prayers, songs, silence and poetry with the goal of promoting tolerance and diversity. Free and open to the public.
