Summer Youth Theatre kicks off season with 'Peter Pan'

The Summer Youth Theatre is kicking off the 2014 season with a production of Disney’s “Peter Pan” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

Performed by a cast of more then 80 students — third grade through eighth grade — this is an adapted school edition production of the 1953 Disney movie (and J.M. Barrie book) where Wendy, John and Michael Darling go with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell to Neverland. They encounter mermaids, Captain Hook and other pirates, singing never-before-heard stage songs along the journey.

The show is directed by Ric Averill; Patricia Ahern will direct the music portion, played by musicians Jeff Dearinger and Steve Riley. Paige Comparato is the choreographer.

“Peter Pan” will have additional performances at 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $7.50 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the Lawrence Arts Center box office or online at
