Best Utility Company
Lawrence residents have given an “A” to AT&T; U-verse and its bundled package of telephone, Internet and cable television service.
With only about six years under its belt in Lawrence, AT&T;’s U-verse service has been named by voters as the Best of Lawrence in the utility category.
Steve Hahn, president of AT&T;’s Kansas operations, said the company was “thrilled” to win the award.
“We have constantly strived with our unique upgrades and interactive applications to not only meet but exceed expectations, and we are not going to stop now,” Hahn said. “We hope customers keep telling us how we can make their connectivity and TV viewing experience even better.”
The company began offering the U-verse service in Lawrence in 2008, but the service is not currently available citywide. Company officials declined to provide an estimate of how much of the community is covered by the service.
According to information provided by the company, AT&T; does have plans to expand the service’s reach by a third nationally, although it didn’t provide details about what that may mean for the Lawrence market.
U-verse uses Internet protocol technology to provide television packages ranging from 130 channels to more than 450 channels. Currently, the company offers high-speed Internet packages up to 45 Mbps in some locations. A company release said there are plans to upgrade the service to offer speeds up to 100 Mbps.
The company hasn’t announced whether it will expand its service in Lawrence, but it is likely that the company is keeping an eye on the city’s evolving Internet market. Hahn, the statewide president for AT&T;, is a Lawrence resident.
