Giant Candy Land

Through the Candy Cane Forest, over Gum Drop Mountain but hopefully not into Molasses Swamp. Things could get delightfully messy from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carnegie Building, 200 W. Ninth St., when Lawrence Public Library hosts a Giant Candy Land Game for kids 4 and older, and their parents. No registration and free to play. Little-known fact: The classic kids game was designed in 1945 by Eleanor Abbott, a San Diego woman recovering from polio.

Strong drink

If yesterday's news that a giant food truck festival is coming soon to the Warehouse Arts District piqued your foodie interest, settle your stomach at 6 tonight at La Parrilla, 724 Massachusetts St., with an Irish whiskey tasting in the wine cellar. The evening will feature five styles of whiskey paired with Irish-inspired foods including duck prosciutto with grilled apples, Ardrhan cheese, Irish soda bread and Irish beef stew. $55 per person. To reserve a seat, call 785-841-1100.

Cooling off

The whiskey might be a welcome tummy warmer after things cool off this afternoon. Today's high will fall short of 60 degrees, with chilly winds up to 17 mph out of the northwest. Overnight low of 33, not quite wintry, then a beautiful Thursday high of 72.
