Orange Mouse Theatricals is seeking mid-century-inspired artwork and handmade merchandise to be incorporated into its upcoming production of "Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" as well as an accompanying exhibition.
The play, which opens Aug. 28 at the Lawrence Percolator, tells the tale of a group of James Dean fans who reunite in 1975 at a small-town Texas five-and-dime store on the 20th anniversary of his death.
Organizers are looking for artwork (all mediums are welcome) that references celebrities, icons and advertising from the 1940s through 1970s.
Handmade merchandise should resemble (or call to mind) what you might find at a roadside five-and-dime store in 1975. Suggestions include soaps, candles, comics, jewelry, candles, dishes, games, candy and accessories.
All creations will be integrated into the set design of the play and throughout the gallery.
The deadline to submit artwork and merchandise is July 27. For more information, including a downloadable application, visit www.orangemouse.wix.com.
