Today in Lawrence: Painting the town green for St. Patrick's Day

Nice day for a parade

St. Patrick's Day will be a wee bit cooler than Monday but still nothing to complain about. The day will start out with temperatures in the 40s and get up into the high 50s under sunny skies. Things will cool off in the evening with temperatures dipping down into the 30s.

The Lawrence St. Patrick's Day Parade starts at 1 p.m. Thursday at 11th and Massachusetts streets and will head north.

Do you feel lucky?

Ah, St. Patrick's Day, the day when everyone looks a little bit greener and feels a little bit luckier.

The day's big draw as usual will be the annual downtown Lawrence St. Patrick's Day parade (and all the crazy floats) starting at 1 p.m. at 11th and Massachusetts streets, heading north and ending at 501 N. Ninth St. across the Kansas River Bridge.

Following the parade, several Irish-themed events are scheduled throughout the day, including a St. Patio Day concert at the Replay featuring several local music acts; Fraoch: Traditional Irish music for St. Patrick’s Day at Johnny's Tavern in North Lawrence; a St. Patrick's Day party and a St. Patty's Day poetry reading at the library; and a performance by Gwyneth, The Feral Flute at the Lawrence Arts Center. Oh, and of course, Guinness and green beer will be on tap pretty much everywhere.
