A trip to Jefferson’s just isn’t complete without a sampling of one of the restaurant’s many fried delicacies.
This week’s visit — our first after its grand reopening last week — included a basket of the Lawrence staple’s corn nuggets.
Apparently, these golden orbs of lightly fried sweet corn are a popular treat in the South, where they’re also called “corn fritters.” (On a personal note, I hadn’t heard of corn nuggets until a Texan friend mentioned them to me earlier this summer, so maybe my sophisticated Wichita upbringing has failed me in this regard.)
The nuggets at Jefferson’s — which, it should be said, originated down in Alabama — boast the kind of crispy exterior that gives way to creamy, delicious corniness.
Where to get it: Jefferson's Restaurant, 743 Massachusetts St.
What you'll pay: $5.99
Try it with: Honey mustard. It comes on the side.
Also on the menu: Plenty of other fried appetizers (among them fried dill pickles), plus salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken tenders, oysters (served raw or baked) and of course, chicken wings.
