NEA chair visits with young artists during Lawrence tour
National Endowment for the Arts chair Jane Chu ended her trip to Van Go Inc. by donning a pair of safety glasses and joining young artists in the creation of a piece of glass art. Monday’s stop at the nonprofit organization, which provides arts-related job training to underserved teens and young adults, was part of a daylong visit to Lawrence, where the NEA chief also toured the Lied Center and engaged in private talks with local arts leaders.

'A Streetcar Named Desire' to open this week at Theatre Lawrence
Most people familiar with “A Streetcar Named Desire,” says Piet Knetsch, are only familiar with just that — the name of the play itself, and not much else. Not much else, he says, beyond the now-famous scene in the 1951 film adaptation in which Marlon Brando, playing the brutish, broken Stanley Kowalski, yells out his wife’s name (“Stella!”) in a desperate plea for her forgiveness.
