Czar Bar not only represents the future of downtown Kansas City, but gives a nod to the history of the district as well. The location has served the city in a variety of capacities since it was erected in 1888. Curiously enough, it began life in a similar manner - as a saloon owned by Kansas City icon William Muehlebach. The historic building also served as the Colonial State Bank, was a previous location of local landmark Italian Gardens, and in more recent years as the home of Late Night Theater.
