About this place
Ixtapa is hands down the best Mexican joint in town. Hands down. What the environment lacks in personality (somewhat at least-their hand painted wall murals are great, but their floor arrangement hardly creates a festive or private environment) the rest of the attributes make up for in scads.
The service is tip-top, with the owner and his wife constantly present, if not serving food, busing tables, etc. (the secret to any great dining experience... Free State and The Orient understand this, too).
Their treatment of the Jalisco culinary style ensures you won't find this food anywhere else in town. Unusual entrees like Pollo a la Crema may force one to question their preconceptions of 'what is Mexican food,' and the char-grilled steak dishes succeed in both finding unique flavor while tending to the traditional palette.
Ixtapa boasts some of the best salsa in town with its Pico de Gallo-esque flare (watery, veggie-loaded, and spicy vs. the thick pasty stuff of most joints). And yes, it is free and unlimited, as chips and salsa outta be.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! They treat you with a lot of respect, and they have the best "old school" mex in town
My personal favorites are the pork chille verde, the chilli colorado and their queso(not cheese dip, but soft white mexican cheese, baked and topped with chiles and tomatoes).
I have never been able to finish a entree there, and I am a big boy...Add the reasonable price and you have VALUE.
