Description

Ixtapa is hands down the best Mexican joint in town. Hands down. What the environment lacks in personality (somewhat at least-their hand painted wall murals are great, but their floor arrangement hardly creates a festive or private environment) the rest of the attributes make up for in scads.

The service is tip-top, with the owner and his wife constantly present, if not serving food, busing tables, etc. (the secret to any great dining experience... Free State and The Orient understand this, too).

Their treatment of the Jalisco culinary style ensures you won't find this food anywhere else in town. Unusual entrees like Pollo a la Crema may force one to question their preconceptions of 'what is Mexican food,' and the char-grilled steak dishes succeed in both finding unique flavor while tending to the traditional palette.

Ixtapa boasts some of the best salsa in town with its Pico de Gallo-esque flare (watery, veggie-loaded, and spicy vs. the thick pasty stuff of most joints). And yes, it is free and unlimited, as chips and salsa outta be.

I went to Ixtapa last weekend. The experience was terrible from the beginning to end. The water glasses were dirty. The service was slow, even though the restaurant was almost empty. When the food came out it was cold and when I asked for it to be warmed I was treated to a big attitude. I will never go to this restaurant again.

This has got to be some of the best Mexican food around! Not your normal fare, by any means, yet ever so delicious. The people are very friendly, the food is always fresh and hot. For the lovers of heat, the Camarones Diablo are very nice, very flavourful, and nice heat, without being too hot. Pollo al la Crema is simply incredible! I have not had a bad experience or bad food here - you can go wrong!

Ixtapa is Lawrence's best kept secret. It is the only Mexican restaurant I eat at anymore. The salsa is spicy. The food is authentic and served hotter (as in temperature, not spice) than you'll get anywhere else. Service is really good.

The staff at Ixtapa are very friendly. I enjoy eating at Ixtapa over El Mezecal.

The salsa is the best in town! Very friendly, courteous - quick on the refills and all around service. Big portions. A bit pricey, but probably worth it - a nice experience!

This is a great place for good authentic Mexican food. The meats are flavorful, the cheeses are creamy not oily and the beans and rice taste good and not like they came directly from a can/mix. Definelty this is one of the best Mexican places in town. They have good food, good service, huge helpings (too big really) and fair prices.

This place used to be my favorite mexican restaruant but I don't know what happened to it. The food has become tasteless and sloppy and the service has not been very good. I actually complained about the food to them and they just blew me off and didn't even apologize. Not very good customer service. Another thing, watch out for your money, one of the cashiers likes to scam you. I might try this restaruant again in a couple of months but if it isn't good again, I am not going back.

I have lived in the southwest, so I am used to having wonderful and affordable Mexican food with lots of variety at my fingertips. I was very pleasantly surprised when I visited here. The staff is adorable, very gracious. It almost seemed like it was their opening night and they were trying to please everyone who was there, in spite of being very busy. When I took my first bite, I understood why they were so busy: the food tastes authentic and has FLAVOR. Nicely done. I'll go back.

This place is definitely my fave as far as Asian food goes. They have a grill where you get to take a plate of raw meat and veggies to someone and it's cooked right there in front of you. On the weekends, it's crab legs/shrimp cocktail (all you can eat). This place is a real winner. The service is fantastic also.

This place is sooooo GREAT. The food, service and atmosphere are incredible. The prices are so reasonable! This restaurant is so much better than El Mezcal!!!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! They treat you with a lot of respect, and they have the best "old school" mex in town My personal favorites are the pork chille verde, the chilli colorado and their queso(not cheese dip, but soft white mexican cheese, baked and topped with chiles and tomatoes). I have never been able to finish a entree there, and I am a big boy...Add the reasonable price and you have VALUE.
