J&S Coffee Co., Inc. opened in Aug. 2003 and has been steadily developing a loyal following with its sophisticated atmosphere and drinks for discerning coffee drinkers.
J&S emphasizes an artisan approach to your coffee experience, using scientific methodology in roasting beans and preparing drinks to ensure a consistent, fresh, high quality product for customers. J&S also makes a point in raising awareness of, and appreciation for, specialty coffee while providing convenient access for West Lawrence residents. In addition to buying from local businesses when possible, J&S Coffee is committed to helping coffee-farming communities by including in their selection several certified Fair Trade coffees and accepting donations to Coffee Kids in lieu of tips. Fair Trade coffees insure that coffee farmers are paid a living wage, and Coffee Kids is an international non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for coffee-farming families through economic, educational, nutritional and health improvements. J&S invites anyone to stop by and try a free sample of our brewed coffee and take home a sample of fresh roasted beans to enjoy at home.

The location gives J & S a calm, relaxing feel that gives it a quite unique atmosphere. Between the broad selections of the beans they roast in store, and the ample selection of drinks they offer, makes it worth the trip alone. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable, especially when you account for the high quality they put into each of their drinks, and also the marvelous service you receive the second you walk into the door. An amazing place offering outstanding coffee! Definitely worth the trip there every time.

There was a time when I could not be convinced that growth on the far west of town would be beneficial to the Lawrence community. Well, I could not have been more wrong! Sara and Joe,have embraced this community as if they have lived here all their lives. If you would like a locally roasted cup of great coffee please stop in to see Joe and Sarah.

Joe and Sarah are the nicest people I've ever met. They are always willing to make whatever drink you are looking for, even if it isn't on the menu. Just ask. Plus if you're not sure of what you want, they always have great suggestions. Also, they have wonderful little treats to go with your coffee. It's the perfect place to go for a great cup of coffee and friendly faces.

Stopping in for a cup of java is about two things: coffee and atmosphere.
If it was about getting caffeine flowing through the system, one could grab any old brew from the corner Sip 'n' Gulp, most likely a cup of bitter brown goo sitting steaming on a burner since ... well, who knows when?
For those who drink coffee for the coffee, J & S Coffee on the north side of Lawrence is creme de la creme. Fresh brewed blends. Fantastic specialties like the delightfully sinful White Chocolate Mocha. Seasonal drinks. Fresh roasted beans to take home. Several Free Trade variaties.
Coffee aside, there isn't a better place to hang out with a great novel or work the crossword in the Lawrence Journal-World. The friendly staff never hesitates to explain how drinks are made and what's in them. There is a definite hip vibe to the place.
I can't always stop in, so I keep a pound of J & S beans on hand for my morning cuppa joe. But whenever I am in North Lawrence, a stop at 6th & Wakarusa is atop my to-do list.
