About this place

The Lawrence Public Library first opened in 1904 in the Carnegie Building at the northwest corner of 9th and Vermont Streets. The Library moved to its current building in 1972, a structure which holds 45,000 square feet. It was the city's largest municipal building to date when it opened.

The new facility offered "modern" services such as rental typewriters, copy-making machines, and a photographic checkout system which was touted as "eliminating handwritten circulation records"!
