Tried to go here on Oct 23rd, 2008 but apparently it closed/moved. So I guess I'll never know what it's like.

The fried chicken was great! And for the price, the catfish basket is AWESOME!!! you practically get a whole catfish for $8! I am definitely a fan!!!

The food was good. We had the catfish dinners.....very tasty!! The biggest drawback was that it was served in a plastic basket with wax paper. The fish was on top of the fries...it was hard to eat either one in a dignified manner. I'd prefer a regular plate, please. The ambiance was nice. Despite the lack of a plate, I'd be back for my next fix of fried fish.

I live in West Lawrence and was on the lookout for a real fish fry (I'm from Wisconsin; I know what a real fish fry is). Midwest Fish Frye fits the bill. The location sucks, the ambience isn't anything special.

But the food is great. Go there. Eat. Be happy and satisfied.

I recently dined at this restaurant and the food was very good. The prices are very affordable for a good home cooked meal. The atmosphere is very nice.

I have eaten there many times since the reopening in January and enjoy it every time! The food is delicious, the people there are super friendly, and the prices are good.

I ate at this place right after it opened, the fish tasted muddy like the bottom of the river, the portions were descent, price was a bit high. 2 out of the 5 ppl I ate with liked thier meal, I think they had the cod. If you are looking for good fried fish try a catfish basket at another bar and grill, or even long john silvers.

Excellent fried fish in a quiet setting. The place is small but worth the trip if your going to get fish. The place knows how to cook fish. Great value.

I ordered an appetizer (fried okra, which was good, as fried okra often is) but I shouldn't have... the portions were so big for the price you pay!! I had the fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed both. The place is run under new management starting last week apparently and I was just trying it out for the first time and would recommend anyone do the same. The ladies working were very friendly as well and were making sure all the food was working as they had made up the batter recipes and all that. Basically, if you like food, go.

Great fish, lots of it, good sides. A quiet but great place, lunch special is probably the best deal.

Delicious, well-fried (not greasy) fish of many different types and a terrific variety of sides in a pleasant setting. Also shrimp, burgers, and tenderloins for those who don't eat fish. Food like this hasn't been available in Lawrence except from home cooks for quite some time. They'll grill the fish if you request it, but like anything it's fine in moderation when served fried.
