Milton's
920 Mass., Lawrence, 66044
Phone: 785-832-2330
Tasty coffee drinks made by pros may be Milton's specialty, but tasteful food draws breakfast and lunch crowds every day of the week. Breakfast makes elegance out of usually modest staples -- biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs, french toast, etc. Likewise, lunchtime sandwiches and salads are enhanced versions of old standbys, and they're always great. Milton's also serves very affordable personal pizzas baked in an Italian masonry oven.
Breakfast served everyday until 2. Lunch served at 11. Dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday only.

It's always a dilemma to decide whether to eat at Miltons. The food -- particularly the oven-baked pizzas -- is top-notch. But the service is horrible, and a normal meal might take up more than an hour of your time. (Which is fine if you're into that, but I often go to Milton's for lunch breaks.) I don't know whether it's because there are too few waiters/waitresses, or whether the pizza takes a long time to cook. It's possibly the former, because it takes 'em a long time to do even simple things -- like refilling your water glass.
I'm basing this opinion on several months' worth of eating at Milton's at least once a week. Does the awesome food outweigh the horrible service? I don't know.
