PepperJax Grill

Description

The few things PepperJax does they do well... choice Philly steak sandwiches, gourmet rice bowls, giant wraps, fresh salads, and perhaps the best fries in town. Now open until 3 a.m. on weekend nights (selling just Phillies and fries after 10 p.m.), PepperJax is one of very few joints that specialize in filling your belly with something other than alcohol after hours.

FYI PepperJax is not a chain - it's the first of its kind to be opened outside of Nebraska by an Omaha restauranteur.

The french fries are really good, and they have always dropped them fresh for me, so they're actually piping hot and (more importantly) more S&P sticks to them.
Overall, though, the food is definitely not "phenomenal", as their website would lead you to believe. For a place with a huge condiment bar that makes wraps and salads, they have little to offer vegetarians. One girl told me they used beef broth in a sauce that a manager had told me was vegan. Even some visiting head honcho-type manager acted dumbfounded when I asked him about ingredients, saying that "just to be safe," I shouldn't use any of the sauces. He couldn't even tell me what the tortillas were made of.

There's nothing like ketchup on a salad that comes with a pound and a half of white rice.
