Description

The Prairie Park Nature Center opened on September 18th, 1989. It consists of 71 acres in total including a 7 acre version prairie that is home to 180 species of plants, wildflowers and native grasses. It also features a 7 acre lake for fishing. An outdoor, wheelchair accessable interpretive trail leading down to the lake opened in the fall of 2001.

The Center houses exhibit areas, classrooms, a resource and meeting room and a gift shop. Permanent exhibits include an aquarium, a bird-watching area, and diaramas representing native Kansas habitats. The Center runs daily and weekly courses, some of which are free.

As state and federal funding for environmental protection decreases, Centers like this one need as much support as they can get. We strongly urge you to check this place out. Its a great spot to learn about the importance of preserving what remains of our natural world and what is left of Kansan wildlife. Highly recommended.

Nature Center Hours:
Open 9am to 5pm Tuesday-Saturday, 1pm-4pm Sunday. Closed Mondays. Entrance is free to the public.
