Description

It's easy to forget that you're in a strip mall thanks to the Orchid's striking, mod interior. The minimalist decor and choice, subtle tunes set an appropriate contextual tone for very flavorful dishes.

This restaurant is really amazing. Once inside, the atmosphere is great, perfectly complementing the delightful menu. I was surprised to see it's lasted as long as it has, simply b/c of the poor location.

Amazing food. Great menu- I wanted to order everything on it. Good service- almost too attentive. Great atmosphere.

My husband and I recently visited the Scarlet Orchid for the first time. We were extrememly impressed. We figured this would be your average Asian restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Scarlet Orchid is wonderful! The food is exquisite and the dining experience is unique. This is a great place for a special occasion or celebration. Try the desserts....they are to die for! Make sure that you don't dine there with a large party however,....the service can take quite a while. It's best for an intimate dinner for 2!

I decided to try out this restaurant twice, but I doubt that I will be going back now. Tempura shrimp udon was ordered and the noodles were overcooked, so that they were soggy and the tempura batter was thick and disgusting (it's supposed to be light and airy). The shrimp were small and unappetizing. The rice for my beef curry was dry and probably had been sitting there for awhile. One good thing is that the beef is pretty tender, but the food is not cheap and the service is at best ok. We never got refills for our drinks or water even though it was a Wednesday night with only 6 tables of people. Maybe the owner should think about adding another cook to the kitchen, so that the food would come out fresher. It is a cool interior, but that's the only thing going for it since it's pretty loud.

I had read the comments posted on this website BEFORE I went to Scarlet Orchid and perhaps it was because of those comments that I have been compelled to write.

The Scarlet Orchid has incredible ambiance - it's got a wonderfully spacious layout that's obviously carefully thoughtout and planned. The service must have improved tremendously since the previous reviews coz I think it was like being back in downtown Chicago at a really nice restaurant where you didn't have to think for the server to know what you wanted.

That's about where the good part ended. The food was just terrible. I had heard so often on their radio ads about how the food would be perfectly seasonsed etc etc and it was far from it. I even took the advice of the previous comments and ordered their chicken curry thinking it would be a safe bet and it turned out to be the worst curry I'd ever eaten - badly over salted and seasoned terribly with cheap ingredients (yes, I tasted the canned bamboo shoots). Considering they over salted the main course, I found to be quite strange coz their appetizers were majorly under seasoned!

I lived quite nearby when Scarlet Orchid opened. It's a little pricey, but the quality is truly unmatched here in Lawrence. The coconut shrimp are amazing, chef ling's chicken is my favorite, curry chicken is quite good, the salmon rolls are great. Simply amazing food. And on top of all that, the service is fantastic. For a while last year, I ended up going there about one every month and got on a first name basis witht he owner. Nice guy, great place to eat.

My husband and I have been to the Scarlet Orchid twice now and enjoyed it both times. The service on our first visit wasn't 100% but our waiter on the second visit was fabulous. We ordered different appetizers, entrees, and dessert both times and haven't tried anything yet that we didn't like. The prices are a bit high for Lawrence but well worth the money. I would recommend the Scarlet Orchid to anyone.

I went to Scarlet Orchid with a group of friends because I had heard good things about the restaurant. I don't know if it was an off-night but I was disappointed. I am usually not one to complain but it took an hour and a half (at least) for our food to arrive (this was a Thursday night). When we inquired about the delay, we were told there is only one chef who cooks only one dish at a time and that there were other orders ahead of us but the restaurant did not seem that busy to me. Makes me wonder how long the rest of our order had been sitting there while the one chef completed our entire order. The waitress spilled drinks on us (but I've been a waitress, so that didn't bother me too much, although she did not wipe up the floor) but the chicken I ordered was very, very dry (probably because it had been sitting in the kitchen waiting for our other orders), the salmon appetizer wasn't that great. The food is expensive which I don't mind paying for if it is worth it. But it is not worth it. I much prefer Thai-Siam or Zen Zero. Much cheaper and better food. The only good thing I can say is that after some prodding and complaining, the manager finally came out and gave us free dessert.

Horribly advertized and locked in a sure-to-die location, Scarlet Orchid is one of the best places no one ever goes to. It's an upscale oriental atmosphere with food variety prepared with care, delicacy and presentation. The food is fresh, real and absolutely delicious. The server cares about his or her performance and tends to your needs genuinely.

Although the price is higher, the value remains because of the quality of everything else.

A Quality

My husband and I decided to check out Scarlet Orchid on a whim...we were curious about what it was, since the name of the place gives not much of a clue as to what it is or what they serve. We were surprised to find that it has an upscale Asian theme, with good service and truly excellent food! We have gone there a few times now, and have enjoyed the appetizers and entrees we've had there. I really love their coconut shrimp, and also the curry chicken. Give it a try when you want to have a truly special evening out!
