Thai House
I stopped by for dinner a few weeks back off the advice of a friend, it was one of her favorite because of the vegan & vegetarian options. She recommended the Bangkok Vegetable Delight which I found delectable. I was pleasantly surprised. I would never have expected such good, authentic Thai cuisine from a restaurant located in a strip mall. I’ve stopped in several times since and have found the intimate atmosphere creates a lovely ambiance which I find quite inviting. The $5 Pad Thai Lunch Special has become my new favorite during the work week especially for a struggling student such as me. It’s literally the best lunch special in town. I also love the Fried Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream.

I have given Thia House too many chances. After last night, I am finally done. Their poor sporadic delivery service and quality of food has been more consistent. I have called more than once during their delivery hours and sometimes they do,..and sometimes they don't. Their food was once really good when located downtown. Now their food is extremely bland. My wife ordered vegetarian spring rolls and got 100% lettuce wrapped in rice paper. Sometimes however, the food is just OK,which is why I kept giving them business. but not worth the expense, not anymore. I don't know how they are existing.

It should be noted that even though they make absolutely NO MENTION OF IT ANYWHERE ON THEIR WEBSITE that they have limited delivery hours. They also seem to change on a daily basis. The food is generally pretty good, the service is competent enough, but plan on dining in!

Americanized Thai food, nothing really special. The Basil wings are good. I stick with the Pad Thai, but every thing else I have dare tried have been disappointments. Vary bland in general. The best thing about Thai house, they deliver until 10pm and its something other than pizza.

Thai House is easily one of my favorite restaurants in town...I was very surprised to find such a jewel so close to my house! I had never been to their downtown location, so I can't say anything about how that might have been, but their food is so fresh and tasty!...and their crab rangoons are so light and to-die-for!! This restaurant is WAY above Zen Zero as far as quality of food goes. They also have "regular" Chinese food, for those of you wary of trying Thai. Go there!! A+!
P.S. It's a lot more affordable at lunch; lunch combos come with soup and side; they are separate at dinner time.

The new location is a bit smaller and less contemporary compared to the old one. The food, however, has improved. Seems like they saved a few bucks on the interior design to put out even better food and service. I have not had better service anywhere else in town.Truly the only Thai restaurant in its class here in Lawrence.

I really didn't like this place at all. The waiter could have really cared less about serving me. The food was so-so and I just felt like what I recieved was not of good value.

Just went to this place at it's new location right next to the ACE hardware at 23rd and Iowa and it was GREAT. In fact, the food itself was even better than before. The new location isn't nearly as cool as the last one visually, but they're trying and it DOES have a nice quaint feel to it. The prices seemed about the same, which is fine given that the food was AWESOME. If you used to be a fan and you're worried whether or not this place is still good, fret not. It's as good if not better than ever.

Thai House is the WORST place in town for Vegetarians/Vegans!! They have a criminally deceptive menu (over 1/2 of the items in the "vegetarian" section contain shrimp and/or fish). NONE of the curries are vegetarian even though they are marked as such and most items contain fish sauce. If you are a serious veg/vegan simply do not eat here.

I had this very unique experience at Thai House!
I orded a dish with "Thai" spice! (Now thats as spicy as it can get). Now, Im Asian by orgin, and was raised eating spicy food. The dish I got was just waay too spicy. I could not handle it. I politely requested for the manager.
Burke Cornum was the manager and he was extremly polite. He not only got me medium spicy food, but even seated me at the best seating the restaurant had to offer. And guess what, he was the person in charge of my order, my food, and everything else. Talk about enjoying the best service. I give this restaurant a 10 for service, food and good holiday spirit. Stop by and say hi to Burke. You will see why it's worth all your dime!

The food was great the setting was as well. This is a place that I will want to go to again. The Crab Rangoo was awsome.

After hearing disparaging remarks about this place, I was very pleased with my experience. Service and atmosphere is solid, but most importantly the food was right on. Some of the better thai food I've had in the midwest.

Not to bad as far as Thai restaurants go...they food still needs some work. They have a great atmosphere. Their prices are a little high considering the type of food you receive. They are more of an Americanized Thai food...much like Zen Zero...but unlike Zen Zero...they water the spices down whereas Zen Zero has a tendency to over flavor the food. Thai House could be characterized as under flavoring the food.
Overall they have an excellent atmosphere and mediocre food.

I usually go there 2-3 times a month. The food is also really good. The reason I like this restaurant is not only their food but that they just care so much about customers (Great Service). This is one of the great joints you shouldn't miss.

This is the best Thai food in town. The wings are by and far the best in town, and I love buffalo wings (these aren't buffalo, but still). The service is good, but not outstanding ... but not many places in Lawrence are.
The prices aren't cheap, but its great food! My favorite restaurant in Lawrence.

This is a bad restaurant. The service is slower than pond water and the food was overpriced. I mildly enjoyed the curry dish, which amounted to a tiny bowl of rice and a soup of curry sauce containing a few small pieces of chicken. If you go, at least avoid the seafood soup. If you want decent Thai food, go to Thai Siam.

The Pad Thai that I ordered was mediocre, and didn't have much of a taste. The service was also pretty bad. They automatically add a 20% tip to the bill which was extremely unnecessary. I would have given a 10% tip, since that was all they deserved. Out of the six of us only 2 people liked their meals, but we all agreed that Zen Zero was much better, and cheaper. Even ordering it medium spicy left nothing but a sweeter sauce and the peanut sauce taste that is usually obvious was absent. Disappointing meal.

Thai House is a great establishment. Recently, it has come under new ownership so i think many improvments to the business should occur in the near future. Everything is good about the resteraunt except i do agree that the service could use a bit of an upgrade. The staff is frinedly and mostly well trained, but i do believe sometimes they are shorthanded in handiling a large crowd. Check out their new wine menu though, definatly top notch, as the resteraunt will hopefully also soon be as well. Anyways, definatly best Thai food in town just ask the loyal cutomers. Thai House is a great place to eat for people who are in search of a more quite and relaxing atmosphere, unlike most of the restauraunts in Lawrence which cater to the younger college crowd. I give them 3 stars for the authenticity of the great tasting food and the enjoyable environment of the place. Remember this is Kansas people!?!? What do you expect, a 5 star joint?

The service has improved lately ....and the food is excellent...You do have to tell the waiter how spicy you want the food...they go from medium to "Thai hot"....This will make you sweat. their basil hot wings are probably the best chicken wing in town, and I love their duck dishes.....My only complaint is the limited seafood....I really wish they would get a good fish supplier and have a catch of the day.

The food at the Thai House was great. It's by far the best Thai Food in town. The "Zero" in Zen Zero is there for a reason. It scores a 0 in taste, authenticity and flavor! The Thai House is authentic Thai food. The owners are Thai, the cooks are Thai, the atmosphere feels like you stepped into a restaurant in the middle of Bangkok. The best part was the bar though. I ate at the bar, so I could have some privacy. I was really impressed with the liquor selection as well as the atmosphere in the bar. It's really a beautifully constructed bar. I couldn't believe that I was the only person who asked to sit in the bar area. The service at the bar was awesome! The bartender was very knowledgable and charming. (Ladies, you should definately check him out.....he's a looker!) He made my drinks very fast and even gave me control of the television remote! The cocktails were the best that I've had in ANY restaurant or bar in town. The drinks and food were second to none. The bar is huge too. You could easily fit a party of 25 people in the bar area alone. I highly recommend that you check out the Thai House & when you get there, ask to be seated in the bar.

To start off this place has the worst service ever, finely when our food came we were almost through the door. But just then we saw our food and went back and sat down but it was COLD! Everything on the downsized menu was way overpriced. The only thing that I liked about this place is the interior was really cool. Overall the experience was terrible and I would never go back, even if someone paid me.

Thai House
For those looking to gorge themselves for under $5.00, this establishment is not for you. For those looking to enjoy authentic Thai food in pleasant surroundings, THAI HOUSE IS OUTSTANDING!
First, the place is owned and operated by Thai people--who were actually born and raised in Thailand. The kitchen is run by Thai people--who also came from Thailand--and not by the usual "I couldn't care less" kids that staff most of Lawrence's eateries. This place couldn't avoid being authentic if it tried.
Second, it is an independent restaurant. I would rather pay more for fresh, good quality food than for food generated in hot tub-sized pots in a corporate commissary somewhere, flash frozen and reheated at the generic local franchise. I gladly pay more for well-made food from a local businesses because I know it costs independents more to make it. I understand and respect that.
Finally, Thai House is a great place to take people. It's located in a gorgeous old building and it really reflects the unique nature of Downtown.
How do I know all of this? I've eaten at Thai House at least once a week since they opened more than a year and half ago. I've come to know the owners and the style of Thai cooking they learned in their native country. It may not taste exactly like what you had when you visited Thailand or had at another Thai restaurant. That's ok. Only McDonalds taste the same the world around.
Admittedly, mine is just an opinion but at least I can say I've visited the place more than just a couple of times.
One final thought...Pad Thai noodles is the Thai equivalent to Chinese Sweet and Sour Chicken. It's what the people who don't really know Thai food order. So treat yourself and try something a little more daring.
