I was very upset with my recent visit to Wa. Not only was the service very unfriendly and not prompt while we were 2 of 4 customers in the whole restaurant. My yellow tail sushi roll was rather warm. I saw it sitting on the bar for a good 10 mins before being brought over to me. The soy sauce was watered down to the point where I couldn't even taste the soy sauce. To add to this I even got sick! You can't mess around with raw fish. Never returning to this restaurant again. I will stick to Yokohama's on New Hampshire.

Normally the sushi is very good here. Tonight it was horrible. The fish was not fresh, basic sushi like spicy tuna, And Philadelphia were horrible. We had a specialty roll and the fish was disgusting. Almost $50.00 for the total meal and it was a waste. We won't be back. Cannot chance an off day again. The waitress was very helpful which was nice.

Favorite sushi bar in Lawrence and my husband and I have been to them all! Consistently friendly staff, delicious food, wide selection, great ambiance. I've convinced several of my more doubting family to try sushi here and they loved it!

Note: on weekends expect a wait. If you know you're on a schedule - make a reservation since they're always hopping - and for good reason!

WA is pretty good but I would recommend KoKoRo too. I think their sushi is the best. But I still loved WA's sushi bar.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Wa. While the fish (I had white tuna sashima and some yellowtail) was satisfactorily tasty and fresh. the service was lackluster. My friend's tempura was seriously undercooked. Worst of all, the soy sauce was watered down. I kept thinking that I must surely be imagining it, but then the customer seated next to us also commented on this. What sushi place waters down soy? It was absurd. I will think twice before patronizing this establishment again.

I love this restaurant! We took our 2-year old there and the staff was so friendly! Sometimes establishments like this can be a little stuffy about kids. However, that was not the case at Wa. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere is so much fun! I would highly recommend it.

This place is awesome. The sushi is absolutly amazing. Great atmosphere. Friendly personnel. The taste is heavenly. To find sushi this good in Kansas is truly a suprise. Every time I have been there I have been pleasently suprised.

I used to work there, but I'm also a sushi connoisseur, having eaten it in at least five different countries around the world, including Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong. I would definitely say that WA ranks up there with the best of them, which is an amazing feat considering it is in Kansas. As far as creativity and presentation goes, I have not been to a better sushi restaurant...and they have most of the classics as well. I know that the service is sometimes good and sometimes bad, but take it from me, in this tiny little restaurant it is very difficult to be a perfect server, especially when the restaurant is packed full of hungry people. In a perfect world, WA would be in a room the size of Tellers, but we take what we can get. I should also mention that WA is the favorite dining stop for many of the famous rockstars passing through Lawrence on tour.

Long live Mr. Shin and his talented family!!!

I love Wa. I love sushi! But...after eating there two nights in a row I was astonished by the two terrible wait staff employees that I had. Each night provided an even worse server. I will still go to Wa, but I am only saying this because the food is great!

This is an amazing shushi house! I am originally from Lawrence and when the WA opened I went there every other day. I've taken coworkers, my family, friends and they all agree this the best sushi in the region. The servers are always polite and attentive, the atmosphere is relaxing, the decor is simple and elegant, and the chefs are incredible. I recently moved to Kansas City, and have searched and searched for a good sushi place but nowhere compares to the WA's menu or perfection. Lawrence is lucky to have such quality shushi in their midst.

I just moved from a very large city with a tremendous selection of sushi restaurants, so by default I have a bit of the snob factor on my side. I was thrilled to find out Lawrence had a new sushi restaurant downtown two years ago, knowing my husband and I would eventually be moving back to Lawrence. For a sushi restaurant in a small city, I was impressed on a few levels, not so much on others. I found that the specialty rolls/sushi on the menu were creative and for the most part, very tasty. In fact, it is probably the most creative menu I have encountered to date for a sushi venue. One of the most annoying things, however, is the fact that they do not have a check sheet for the sushi/rolls/sashimi items. Every other sushi restaurant I have been to provides this option. Curious as to why they do not supply this to their customers. They always seem oblivious to the fact that these exist when I've inquired about them in the past. Oh well. I've found the service to be spotty as well. About two weeks ago I stepped in to order take out over lunch. The server seemed disturbed over me wanting to order lunch to go and noted that it would be at least 30 minutes before I could receive my order because there was a table of four that just arrived. Mind you, this was the only other table with patrons in the restaurant at the time. I left. This server has also often reminded patrons of the witching hour 15 minutes before closing and seemed upset that a customer would be in the establishment a few minutes before closing. Rushing your customer out the door is not a great way to maintain your client base. Of course I say this and the last time we went the service was excellent. All in all, a good place to get sushi- especially in a small city in the middle of Kansas!

Wa is the best sushi in the Lawrence/KC region. Many thumbs up! I don't mind the price because you can't find good sushi in this area to save your life!

I can't believe this place is still in business. I'm a pretty fair person, but when I left this place I felt like I had been robbed. After I left the place I had to stop at burrito king to satisfy my hunger. Oh well, I guess i've wasted more money on worse things.

The food has always been great, and things look brighter for WA now that the sushi-nazi has been relocated. The prices have gone up not once, but twice, since opening, and I don't really like the onions in the miso. But the Hamachi special is awesome, and sometimes you just need a pot of hot sake.

Went back after I heard it was under new ownership....IT FREAKIN ROCKED! We were treated like long lost friends and the food was incredible. Lots of good octopus dishes. I heartily endorse this new Wa.

Great decor/ambiance, incredible sushi, cool live bands occasionally, really nice servers. All sorts of props for this place... ;)
