I've had better bread, but not in Lawrence. This is a wonderful place to go for a fresh-baked loaf in the morning. I highly recommend the challah, one of their best breads. I try to avoid eating in because of the yuppie swarm, but I take food home from here pretty often.

I LOVE Wheatfield's so much. I think the bread is fantastic and the sandwiches equally delicious. My only comment, or maybe question is; Why is the staff rude? There is only one guy there that is ALWAYS consistantly pleasant (he has dark hair and dark glasses). I am always pleasant to the staff and they always seem put off or mad about something and rarely crack a smile...what happened? Can anyone explain this?

PS: and they were out of 3 of teh large breakfast items on the menu (which there are 10 I think?) 1 is understandable, but 3? Come on. I was late to work waiting on my second choice.

I think all of the buzz and awards for this place over the last few years have finally gone to their head. It used to be so good. I've lived in Lawrence for 7 years, and if someone comes in from out of town for breakfast or lunch, there was no question, I wanted to take them to Wheatfields. After today I will avoid it at all costs.

The food has become average at best. The bread, still great, if all you get is bread. But the meat and egg prep are about as good as I could do in my kitchen; which isn't great. The prices are just stupid. Last time I was in, I was charged $6.50 for a two egg omelete (provolone and turkey, nothing special) and about 3 bites of hashbrowns. I'm not one for huge portions, but it was literally 3 bites. The worst part, I waited over 30 minutes for this! last time I was in for lunch, 45! I can go to Teller's on a Friday night and get a MUCH better meal in 15 minutes.

Now for service. In this business, you bend over backwards to please the costumer. Just in my one visit this morning, an elderly woman was mischarged by $5 and the cashier was so indignent that the woman who got short changed actually ended up apologizing for wanting her money back. Before I left, another lady looked at the piece of bread she had ordered with her meal (off the end of the loaf, about as big as a playing card) and commented in a playful way, "Is this what a bakery let's pass for a piece of bread?" Her server looked at her. That was all. Then walked away. No bigger piece, no apology, didn't even acknowlage her expect with her body language, which said, "I heard you and I do not care."

WOW

It's all about the cinnamon rolls, folks! They are the best ever. Forget your Caseys bearclaws or Dillons day old specials, these are chewy and gooey and I'm always sad when it's through-ie.

Love their breakfasts. Good eggs, coffee, and cinnamon rolls. The hash browns are heavenly.

Sandwiches are good there too.

My only gripe is that they have a tip jar by the register...Customers have to do their own service.

The bread is the best in town, and most of the other food is pretty decent too. Nice art on the walls, and a great atmosphere. My only problem is the service. I don't mind carrying my own food, toasting my own toast, or even waiting forever if it's busy, but when I'm the only one at the counter it shouldn't be as difficult as it is sometimes to get served.

My new Wheatfields rule when I'm the only one waiting at the counter is 5 minutes or 5 employees walking past without helping me and I'm out of there. I've been walking out about 1 out of 3 times. I still come back though; the bread is that good!!!

Wheatfields is one of my favorite places in town to go when I want quality food and a quaint and busy atmosphere. The salads ARE amazing and the bread is superb. The only problem I have with Wheatfields is when it gets really busy and things start to get a little crazy. I've waited on silverware, glasses for water, etc. quite a while when it's been too busy. But it's DEFINITELY worth the experience!

Yea, the portebello mushroom sandwich is the best deal in town, as far as quality of meal vs the price. I've had these sandwiches cost over $15 and barely have been better than wheatfield's. Their bread is the best in town and it's like $2-4 a loaf, awesome.

I think Wheatfield's can be summed up in three simple words --quality of ingredients. It is simply the best. The prices are fair considering that you're paying for something that is real, fresh, and expertly prepared. As for the service, I love the people there. They are very kind. If you're too lazy to take your own food to the table, maybe you should just go to First Watch or Milton's instead and wait an hour for your ho hum breakfast or your hash browns with fried fly garnish. Free up some tables for us!

wheatfields is my new favorite place to eat. the sandwiches are a little overpriced, as are the desserts, but the bread is the absolute best and the salads are always different and delicious. the soup......well, some of it is great and some of it is awful......but it's always an adventure. it's the only place where i feel totally comfortable eating lunch alone so i stop in whenever i am in the area.

Wheatfields has made some great improvements lately! You still stand in line to place your order, but now when your food is ready they bring it to your table. And they now serve breakfast til 11am instead of having that hour where breakfast is over and lunch hasn't started yet. The last time I ordered breakfast it appeared just ten minutes after I sat down. I've always loved that place- now I love it even more.

Wheatfields bread is one of a kind. I agree that there service isn't the best in town but that could be because they are always busy. You can not find bread like this anywhere else in Lawrence. The meals are also very unique and a must-stop-by bakery.
