Worst experience ever! Everybody was rude. We had a large group and told ahead of time we were coming. Not only did they scatter us around the restaurant, we couldn't get the happy hour special because we were still considered a large group. And on top of that they added gratuity to our bill so the waitress had no reason to be nice. Worst place ever. Wouldn't recommend it to anybody! I gave them a second chance after finding a BAND-AID in my food but that place is dead to me. Don't go there!
I went to this restaurant with my wife and step-daughter for Mother's day. The place looks really amazing inside, relaxing and differnent types of seating available. We sat next to the sushi bar and watched them make the sushi and sashimi right in front of us. My wife's order came pretty fast and she enjoyed every mouth full, however my step-daughters and my meal took an extrensively long time to get to us (nearly 45 mins wait). Other people seemed to be getting served before us, which was annoying since I only ordered curry udon, which is a curry soup with Japanese noodles. They did appologize about the delay and the food was certainly amazing in texture and flavour, so we may give them a second chance to redeem themselves and see if the service is a little faster next time..
Overall.... GREAT food, Wonderful atmosphere and good prices..
I have been a faithful yokahama patron since I moved here and have had nothing but fantastic service at the 23rd street location... however the service at the downtown location is ridiculous! Tonight on my 5th attempt I waited 45 minutes for drinks at the bar while waiting to be seated... then finally got seated after 3 groups came in after ours(are there reservations?) when we finally got seated it took yet another 30 minutes to order our food and get our second round of drinks... and then come to find out we could not pay for the drinks we had at the bar on our food tab... because they had to be separate.... i'm not sure i understand all that. The waiting is one thing but the condescending service is another the only reason we even stayed is because the sushi is awesome. This story is just from tonight I have had even worse service but this was the last straw.
got take out from the downtown location, it was disgusting and the rolls I ordered, which werent supposed to be spicy what so ever, left my mouth on fire. The only words that come to mind to describe the awful 40 dollar meal I got are stomach ache. I will never waste my money there again
This is based solely on the New Hampshire Street location. Their sushi is delicious, one of my favorite menu's in town. It is in the location of the former New Hampshire Street Bistro and has a very nice vibe and cool atmosphere. Their service is terrible though. Every occasion I have ordered a bottled beer is was chilled at best and had to request that the beer be colder. The service from the waiters/waitresses is spotty, sometimes it is adequate, other times it is completely unacceptable. It took 3.5 hours for a party of 10 to leave because of terrible service. I love the sushi but the service at the New Hampshire Street location is completely unacceptable, never have I ever experienced worse service at a restaurant. Yokohama is losing serious business to Wa and Kokoro because of their terrible service and this is something that needs to be addressed.
The sushi was all right
We ordered a dish that wasn't really to our liking and asked for a possible discount
we did not get any sort of discount or any sort of compensation
customer service was poor
not a great experience, nice atmosphere but would not recommend it
I also heard that there was an abundant amount of MSG in their food so my girlfriend and I quit going there and spoke to Wa about their practices. Fortunately, Wa does not use MSG in their food production. Lets get honest sushi restaurants in town that don't freeze their fish.
Yokohama sushi has a lot of hidden secrets. There is MSG in everything, including Udon soup to the eel sauce that accompanies many of the rolls. The shrimp taste like they have been infused with chemicals and the fish are always frozen. Even the unagi. So I would think twice before ordering another helping of monosodium glutamate.
Yokohama sushi is very good, and the staff at the new location is great. You get a heart felt welcome spoken loudly in Japanese as you enter the establishment.
For once Lawrence has authentic Japanese cuisine. I have lived in Japan for 12 years and this is as good as it gets. The sushi is fresh and never frozen. The Uni is to die for! Try the many Udons, and other noodle meals for a great hangover cure. Great atmosphere, and friendly staff make Yokohama Sushi a must see for Lawrence. Thank you God!

Small, friendly and toned down atmosphere. No need to dress up, which I enjoy very much. The cost of the food is the same as Wa but quality could use a lot of work. The staff was friendly and responsive to our requests, but I shouldn't have to ask for refills every time.
The shrimp was not fresh enough to be on sushi!!! I thought shrimp was the easiest to maintain. Kind of make me wonder about other sushi grade fish. I didn't get sick, so it must have been okay.
This is a great place to go, whether on your own for a casual lunch or on a fancy dinner date or party. The atmosphere is very unique. The chef's and waitresses are very friendly and outgoing. And of course, the best part...exceptional sushi, for a very reasonable price!
Try the Cowboy Roll--it's DELISH! As was most everything I tried. The ginger dressing on the salad is not as tasty as available elsewhere locally, but it's adequate.

Really? I asked and they said there is no MSG. Are you sure? I think it's a great place and the owner is so nice.
