Absolutely top-notch roastery, and not just for Lawrence. Z's has roasted the best beans I have ever had. I am always in the market for new beans, new roasts, and new brews when I travel, but Z's coffee amazes me every time I come back to Lawrence. Mark Zwahl's lighter roasts preserve the complex flavors and textures of the coffee, while his fastidious choice of beans prove their worth as their characteristics evolve through the roasting process. His Central and South American beans are perfect for those who like milder beans and blends but still politely ask for complexity and fresh roasts. However, Z's truly stands out with the intense African and South Pacific coffees, which can be so hard to predict. If you prefer a morning coffee experience likened to indulging in a Clos des Papes Chat paired only with the appropriate Riedel Sommelier stemware, then you shouldn't go anywhere else for your beans.

Z's is my favorite place to meet friends and hang out. Great coffee, yummy baked treats, and there is always interesting art on the walls to look at and talk about. Sometimes the music on the stereo is too loud, and I wish they stayed open later, but overall this is one of my favorite places to meet and greet, and get a good mocha java.

What can I say? Z's Divine Espresso rocks the house!
The Z-man has perfected the art of coffee roasting and blesses Lawrence by providing such an outstanding product. It's about time a coffee shop in Lawrence has broken the mold and brought some sophistication to the town. Not only is Z's a comfortable and dope place to relax or study, but the baristas are the coolest, create the best drinks (coffee or specialty) and treat all of the Lawrence natives and newcomers with the upmost respect. My hat is off to the Z-man and his concern for the community and our environment. He's the man!
Oh... and all of the graphic design work oozing out of this joint is fresh and contempory (the drink cards rock!) which is also VERY refreshing to see. Two thumbs up to the creative thinkers behind Z's Divine Espresso!! Don't change a thing and I can't wait to see what the Z-man has up his sleeve.

I went to Z's where I was served by a friendly and fun barrista named Ally. She made a damn good cup of coffee and even suggested some delicious pastries for me to eat. I tried some kind of cookie that was supposed to be healthy and organic, and it was nasty. The coffee, though, was rich and tasty. Just like Ally the barrista.

Zs roasts their own coffee weekly and offers local ice cream (Sylas and Maddy's) and baked goods. They are by and large the coffee roasting and brewing experts in lawerence. Locally owned with 2 locations. They recycle and recieved an enviromental award for their coffee grind compost garden that contains native plants.
