Family Portraits
Tuesday, April 1, 2008
The Allen kids are a complicated set of sibs right up there with Abel and Cain or Donnie and Marie. Brett Allen makes abstract acrylic paintings. Maggie Allen made further abstractions of some of these paintings using colored pencils. They decided to conjoin these twin images into a brother and sister show called “Pareidolia.” This showcase of art and ready-made “forgeries” sets up a mock family feud between the Allen brood, one which spilled over into our interview, in which Brett provided answers and Maggie supplied forgeries of those answers. The following took place over a long night of therapeutic soul-searching over the nature of family and art—and a long night of drinking. Mostly drinking. The accompanying podcast is the Maggie Allen half of the interview, because Brett Allen doesn't deserve to be associated with this idiocy. WARNING! NSFW! (unless you work in a brothel staffed by hookers with Tourette's)

While having cocktails one recent evening with Björn Ulvaeus and Steve Miller, they asked me if they might have the honor naming my next podcast. Not bad, fellas. Not bad. Join me and my toady, Gavon Laessig (Puditocracy) as we clear up some nasty business with the Brits, confront poorly made puppets head-on, and engage in a heated debate concerning the multi-faceted allure of Ms. Pac-Man. Come, let me turn your ears into my cornholes.
Yeah, yeah. Right, right. Tremendous.

Meh
Tuesday, March 6, 2007
I promised the cat that I would let her name my inaugural podcast. Not bad for a first attempt at podcast naming. Mind you, she didn't give me much to choose from. All she came up with was, Meh, Meh-eh, and Yeehhh-ah. The choice was obvious; the others were just too complicated. Stupid cat. If you'd been hoping that I would take 3 dudes and put them in a closet with me and a microphone then your prayers have been answered. Matt Armstrong ( Hate the Player), Gavon Laessig (Punditocracy), and Patrick Giroux (Deadwood Edition wrangler and general artistic genius) join me, your fairy podmother, to help tackle such compelling issues as, Helen Mirren's underwear, Transformers, competitive facial hair, and what we believe may be the introduction of puppeteering to audio podcasting. Together, we're like the Lawrence.com All-stars… if the rest of the team were on the disabled list. So come along and stick some corn in your ear!
