About this place
A quirky drink and Indonesian food joint, Indo (formerly Pochi Tea Station) piques your appetite and your imagination. Choosing the drink is only the beginning: choosing what goes at the bottom is the real challenge. The atmosphere is like no other: neon-green walls, Asian music videos, and plenty of board games to choose from. Also features the best and biggest Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich you'll find for $3.

I couldn't agree with Nathan more on his comments. I love Indo. In fact, I'd probably say that it's my favorite restaurant in Lawrence. The only problem is that they are rarely open when I try to go there, even if it's within their posted business hours. I had a friend visiting for a week, and we tried to go eat there three times, but to no avail. I would be devastated if Indo were to close. I hope that they can get this problem solved.
Other than the fact that I can't eat there when I try to, Indo is amazing. Fun atmosphere, interesting and delicious food, tasty drinks and desserts...what is there not to love?

If there was a rating for consistent hours it would be a 1. I live across the street and constantly see people trying to go to Indo but realizing it's closed.
I love the food but never know when it's open.

Steadily becoming less and less what I have loved... went last night and my once-favorite Nasi Kusing now has plain white rice, not the moist, fragrant lemongrass rice.
The sauce, pickle, tofu, and tempeh portions have continued to shrink geometrically, so we ended up with half a plate of dry rice and peanuts after rationing out the pieces of tofu and trying to scrape up the last bits of moisture.
If I am not going to get them again, the only way to get over how delicious mom's recipes were may be to stop going. However, if you never went to Pochi before the ownership change, you might be perfectly happy with the food... I think I will give it one more shot and ask for extra of everything but the rice.
At least they do have a few vegetarian and vegan options, and it is locally owned!

I used to like this place to grab a snack or a light dinner when downtown, and went there a number of times. I brought friends and family members there. I really enjoyed their crepes, which are difficult to find in Lawrence, and their tea is always delicious.
Unfortunately, the last time I was there, I ordered the Italian crepe - one of my favorites - and decided to try the Kiwi Juice. I was with two friends, and we all got different things (although I don't recall what the two of them got). When I was handed my kiwi juice, I knew it didn't look right - it was completely translucent, and a bright, bright St. Patrick's day shade of green. The taste was excessively surgary, and I was unable to detect a trace of actual juice. Yup, I'm pretty sure I paid $2.50 for a glass of Kool-Aid incorrectly labeled as juice.
When our food came, I eagerly dug into my Italian crepe, only to find that there were chunks of HOT DOG in it. Gross! There was no Italian sausage in it like usual, and apparently someone thought that a hot dog - which it undoubtedly was - would make a fine substitution.
Both of my friends liked what they got, and I used to always enjoy my food and drinks there too, but after being put out 8 or 9 bucks for KOOL-AID and HOT DOG CHUNKS, I haven't been back. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since I didn't say anything about my food or drink - thus not giving them a chance to fix it - but I was pretty insulted to get a crepe with a freakin' hot dog in it instead of Italian sausage.

Ohhh so good! Loved every dish I've tried. Not too keen on the tapioca pearls but the teas were great. Can't wait to try every dish. The guy who waited on us was extremely nice and helpful. Must try this place!

I've been twice and enjoyed the food both times.
The waitstaff were very helpful as I had not tried Indonesian food before.
I think that the best way to review is to go item by item:
On my first visit I had the (206) Nasi Uduk.
Fried chicken - Moist and flavorful with a thin, salty skin. (10 of 10)
Chicken satay - Rich sweet sauce. Slightly small portion. (9 of 10)
Fried tofu - Thin salty sauce with a chewy texture. Small portion. (7 of 10)
Fried egg - Sweet sauce but with a rubbery texture. (5 of 10)
Rice (Menu offers coconut rice but they were out so I had white.) - Wonderful texture, sticky but not gluey. Little or no crust from sitting in open air. (10 of 10)
On my second visit I had the (215) Roast Pork Rice
Roast pork - Moist and tasty but with more bone than meat. (6 of 10)
Fried chicken - see above review
Garlic chicken - Nice spicy sauce but meat was dry and chewy. (3 of 10)
Hard boiled egg - Soaked in sauce than quartered. (7 of 10)
White rice (menu says with chicken broth but none was given) - see above

It's hard to know where to start. The food is right tasty and in great portions as well - not too big, not too small. While they have a great variety in their menu, I can't seem to get off my #210 with some taro milk and pearls (bubble tea). Yum!
It's a great locally owned joint. The owners are always there and always in a great mood. It's a colorful and cozy place. The service is outstanding. Thanks Indo!

I had the Nasi Uduk on steamed rice (instead of coconut rice), with milky Barley bubble tea.
I decided to rate everything item by item.
fried chicken - tender meat, thin & salty coating, 8 of 10
chicken satay - 2 spears, juicy meat, fabulous sauce, 9 of 10
fried tofu - kinda small, spongy texture, good sauce, 7 of 10
fried egg - slightly overcooked, not my favorite, 4 of 10
rice - soft, sticky, no dry grains or "scabs", 9 of 10
tea - good size, sweet but not cloying, light flavor, nice chew, 8 of 10
service - friendly staff, no long wait, clean & inviting atmosphere

I just got the 209 from Indo Cafe a few minutes ago, complete with tasty tofu. My guess is that perhaps one of the cooks "forgot" to add a few key ingredients to your particular dishes but that the menu and recipes are still the same. I'm sure it's going to take a bit of time for these guys to perfect the dishes as they just recently took over ownership.
Please try it for yourself and make your own judgements.

Pochi Tea Station has been my favorite restaurant in Lawrence since the day it opened. I am so sad to say that they seemed to have stopped putting tofu in the recipes, as all the vegan dishes I love are mysteriously missing those big triangles of juicy tofu that mom was so generous with. The potatoes in the kari (aka curry) are missing as well, leaving the entrees as large, expensive sides of rice, a few veggies, and sauce. Saya tidak mengerti!! Let us know if anyone spots the tofu truck delivering so we can go back! Otherwise I will be in my kitchen, trying to conjure the magical flavor of the Pochi kari sauce.

I agree we are lucky to have Pochi Tea Station in lawrence.
The people are nice and they recognize the need for more GOOD asian food in lawrence. There is a reason why so many asian people hang out here it is the kind of place you might see in the city. in fact they are from Seattle. I have no idea why they decided to open a store here but I am glad they did. The red bean smoothie is good but my favorite is the avocado smoothie.

Like the curry dishes, they are spelled "kari" on their menu. The vegetable curry and chicken curry are great. There is also some kind of fried beef in dried curry called rendang, rich and flavorful spicy. Tea wise, I like the red bean milk tea with tapioca pearls. Also, their roast pork rice is really good. One of the very rare, few places in the U.S. that has authentic Indonesian food. We are lucky to have them here in Lawrence!

Jmlawrence is right on about the Pochi's chicken curry being better than Zen Zero's. It almost compares to the Thai House's: $5 beats $12 though. Has games to play or magazines to read while your waiting for your food (about a 10min wait, no tip required). Very friendly, family run staff. Decent selection, just added a few more entrees; milks, teas, and slushies are all great. Only drawback really is the music they play, but it can be kind of fun in small doses.

The people at Pochi Tea Station are great. They have a nice place to sit and chat with friends or grab a quick bite to eat. The food is tasty and a good value. I would rate their chicken curry above that of Zen Zero--and I really like theirs. As for the tea--great, once you get used to the tapioca pearls.
My advice--try it at least twice.
