Exclusive lawrence.com podcast! Listen now to For Whom The Dethklok Punches In The Balls!!
Despite fitting together nicely name-wise, these two acts don't have much in common musically, as Trail of Dead leans more towards actual singing and involved arrangements rather than guttural screaming and double-kick fury. The Austin, TX, band is legendarily energetic live (they nearly tore down the ceiling of The Bottleneck), and their sound continues to become leaner and more focused with galloping riffs and forays into psychedelic pop.
The members of Dethklok (of Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse") are likely more accustomed to comic violence rather than college tours, but one never knows with Nathan Explosion, Murderface, Pickles, Toki Wartooth and Skwisgar Skwigelf. Heavy on the Yngwie Malmsteen riffs, the real-life version of the band is fronted by series creator Brendon Small and should thrill the black-metal contingent at least as much as Spinal Tap titillated the headbangers.
Event open to the public. Pick up free vouchers at the SUA box office before the day of the show. Vouchers good only until 7:15, at which point admittance is first come first serve.

This event is NOT, in fact, students only. Call the SUA Box Office, 785-864-SHOW, for vouchers or stop by the office directly on Level 4 of the Kansas Union.
