The Turnpike

Trampled by Turtles

Air date: June 28, 2007

Description: When these four quick-pickin' young men told us they weren't a bluegrass band, we thought they were full o' crap. Guitar, bass, mandolin, and banjo spells bluegrass in our book. But Trampled By Turtles hasn't read our book, and it's a good thing. They take more from bands like the Flying Burrito Brothers and Pure Prairie League than anything in the Bill Monroe catalog. It's country-fried rock they're playing, via Duluth, Minnesota, and the heat of their music is like a northern summer—hot, sweet, and gone too soon. And full of ticks.
