Mad Greek Restaurant

Wow, seems you either love this place or hate it! If you are a reader trying to decide whether to go here or not, I'd suggest you try it yourself, because clearly the crowd is divided. I fall on the "love it" side. I've had many dates here, and frequently when my family is in town we'll go there. I've had a couple of dishes that I wasn't thrilled with, but I've also had plenty that I was enamored with. The prices are decent for what you get, I think.

My favorite item here is the Tiramisu. Granted this was the first place I ever had it, so maybe it just set the standard, but I've only found a few other places that could compare. As far as service, well, I don't recall ever having a problem, and I've been there upwards of a dozen times. They have a kick-ass brunch buffet on Sundays.

Zen Zero

As with some other commenters, all I know about Thai food is pretty much what I've learned from Zen Zero. So whether or not it qualifies as authentic is beyond me. But I'm with mitzibel, minus the Nazis. I'd probably avoid the place then... but I love me some Phad Thai and the Singapore noodles are great when I'm in the mood for something a little different (but not too different). Their spring rolls (non-fried) I enjoyed very much, especially the yummy peanut dipping sauce! I do wish you got a few more than two, but then, it is just an appetizer.

My main complaint is that one time, our (admittedly cute) waitress was, rather blatantly, hitting on my girlfriend while we were there on a date.

Oh and also I really wish I knew what those funky styrofoam-looking chip things they give you before you order are made of. They fizzle if you hold them on your tongue!

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shop (Downtown)

I *love* Jimmy John's. They don't deliver as fast to my new place as they did to the other places I've lived, but that's okay, I have a feeling it's because my girlfriend is a cheap tipper. Their sandwhiches aren't particularly unique in any way I can pinpoint, but they encompass something I've never found anywhere else. As far as the mayo making people sick, I've never heard or experienced that myself. Personally I think the combo of mayo with their glorious bread is simply perfect.

I've never tried the non-french bread, but my girlfriend gets it most every time and loves it. I like to get a cheap loaf of day-old bread and munch on it. Also their big ol' pickles are a treat. My only complaint is that I have trouble keeping all the goodies inside the bread while I'm eating it -- it all tends to scooch towards the back end of the sammy with every bite. But heck, if I had to choose between that and not enough goodies, I'll take that!
