Scary, I almost said something equally incredulous/snarky but refrained. Also the lack of actual commentary about the music and playing (which both kicked ass) left a little to be desired. But the crowd was like, super-friendly, so who cares about anything else? Okay, now I AM being snarky...
I make this almost the exact same way! I whip up my own bbq sauce with a can of crushed toms, fresh garlic and lots of sliced onions plus spices (chili powder, cumin, paprika and cayenne), spicy mustard, brown sugar or molasses and a little Bragg's cider vinegar. This is so easy and good...
And maybe you would like the dairy and mayo free slaw I make to go with it. Basically a slaw in a sweet and tangy vinaigrette...I have converted many a slaw-hater with this one!
I have been on a big Asian food kick only recently. This is particularly sad because I am half Asian (ahem) and have never bothered to learn some of my mom's native recipes. Lately though, I find myself experimenting with Korean and Japanese flavors. I also cook vegetarian 3-4 times a week so Asian food fits that very nicely.
Be sure to look up the Korean dish bibimbap. This is a weekly staple at my house. It may very well be my death-row meal.
I adore jicama and used it in a salad last night. Romaine, jicama, grapefruit segments, a perfectly buttery avocado, roasted pepitas and a cilantro-lime vinaigrette. Delish!
