Off the Beaten Plate: Fried Pickles at Jefferson’s Restaurant

Seriously? I know for a fact these are prepackaged Sysco products. They aren't even of high quality compared to some of the much higher-end fried pickles carried by Sysco.

The employees open a plastic bag and dump them in a fryer. For a blog titled "Off the Beaten Plate," I would assume the blog would feature food that isn't low-end, prepackaged crap that can be found anywhere in the nation (Edit - or even just in Lawrence....).

Burger Stand lands on another nationwide 'best burger' list

I consider this place to be the most overrated burger in the greater KC area. Not once have I had a burger properly cooked there (and yet every time they ask me how I want it cooked?!). It always comes out RAW or BURNED.

The talked about fries are all Sysco pre-packaged affairs that are overly tossed in tons of flavored fat and the "homemade" dipping sauces are pre-made sauces that they add a couple of ingredients.

If they were charging $5-6 a burger, maybe. But for almost $10 (or more), complete rip-off.

Bourdain should've made 'Reservations' in Lawrence, don't you think?

Lawrence BBQ is horrible. Of course he didn't come to any BBQ place in Lawrence. There are over 100 better BBQ places in KC...

On the hunt for Boulevard's Chocolate Ale, Lawrence residents enlist friends and family

You have definitely marked yourself as someone who knows nothing about beer. $8-9 for a 750 ml bottle of beer is on the LOW end. For a low volume special bottling like this it is unheard of.

Is it the best beer I have ever had? No. Have I paid much more for much worse beer? YES.

Conquistadores: Suddenly, downtown Lawrence is rife with Latin-tinged restaurants

La Familia is struggling because the portion sizes have become miniature, the food quality has plummeted and yet some how the price has greatly increased. No one in their right mind would elect to eat there.

PS - This is from someone who used to *love* La Familia... You can't change an arm and a leg for tiny qualities of blah quality Mexican food and expect to make it when your restaurant is within easy walking distance of 30 other restaurants. La Familia was on the way out long before these other restaurants opened........
