Off the Beaten Plate: Sumac Chicken at Aladdin Cafe

I have never had anything that wasn't superb at Aladdin's. When I am in town we always go there, it's my 6 year old grandson's favorite restaurant (since he was 3!). I make sure to bring something back home with me to savor for a few days. I would give my right arm, well my foot maybe, to know their salad dressing recipe!

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shop (Southside)

The very WORST sandwich that I have had in my life.

I don't know what in the world was on that thing - but it was like a slab of Crisco on Wonderbread - and I am NOT kidding.....

La Familia Cafe (Downtown)

What happened?????

We ALWAYS ate at La Familia whenever we visited family members in Lawrence - which is often.

The last couple of times we ate there, we encountered: hair in food, smaller portions and larger prices, a bug strolling by, and twice multiple members of our dining party became ill after eating there.

I hope that improvements can be made, because I absolutely LOVE the food and salsa!

Aladdin Cafe

I have only dined here for the Sunday buffet.....oh my goodness!

Everything I had was excellent! I thought I hated catfish until I had it here! When it was announced that another platter of fish had been served, I thought I would be trampled in the stampede.

We had a very pleasant server, the atmosphere was relaxing, the price was more than a bargain, and the buffet offerings were delicious. A thoroughly delightful dining experience!
Thank you!.

PepperJax Grill

Only had one sandwich - takeout - and it was superb!!!!!

Here is a little funny story which illustrates how great these sandwiches are....
My son and I were visiting my 2 daughters and their new husbands this summer. While waiting for daughter #1 and hubby, my son and son-in-law #2 went to pick up sandwiches for themselves, as everyone else had eaten.
Well, they arrived with a 3rd sandwich - the result of a coupon, I believe.. The sandwiches smelled so DELICIOUS, that newly arrived son-in-law #1 kept commenting on the delightful aroma wafting from the kitchen where son and SIL #2 were eating.
Those scoundrels simply would NOT offer the extra sandwich to him! No amount of gesturing or grimaces could persuade them to give up the Philly!

I felt genuine embarrassment at the lack of civility shown by the two vultures.
The identity of the culprit who refused to share the 3rd sandwich is still a matter of family debate, but I think the guilty party did feel a bit of remorse as he ate that sandwich
(you know who you are!).
