Vital organ: Church spends 7 years refurbishing instrument

Good story, but the JW reporter, as has been the case many times in the past when this newspaper has attempted to describe projects of the Reuter firm, needs to do some more homework before submitting her story. The Moller organ people in Hagerstown, MD will be interested to know that now they are referred to by a Lawrence journal as "Muller". And Sara Wentz, music director at FUMC in Lawrence will be surprised to know that her last name has been truncated. Forgive them, Sara, they are still trying to figure out how to deliver papers to their subscription customers.

The myth of the black cat: Coal-colored kitties aren't bad luck, but they do need your help

This is a really neat article. It never ceases to amaze me that any intelligent person could be affected by the classical prejudices against black cats. Although I own 4 cats and none of them are black (the calico has a few black spots). I think that it matters not one whit what color a kitty is. they can be very loving, aloof, unconcerned, funny, distant and a whole other range of emotions. That is why they are cats. And they can keep your feet warm at night.

Style Scout: Donna Steinman

Wow!! Finally a "style" example from the regular working class folks! I get pretty tired of the usual pap presented in this column with wacky students, goofy hippies, and other weird and strange persons. Finally hit the mark, JW with a normal and respectable lady who has some sense and charisma.I guess it is that good old Oklahoma background!!

Lawrence musician's business making bassoon reeds 'appeared out of nowhere'

One of my best friends in high school was a bassoonist, he was best man at my wedding.

He and others in our band made their own reeds. The band director obtained the necessary materials, the cane, wire, thread and adhesive, and taught how to make the double reeds for both the oboe and bassoon. It was fascinating and interesting to watch. These double reed instruments are difficult to play well and having the skills to make and adjust your own reeds for these instruments is a real plus. Good luck with your business and consider branching out to the reeds for the oboe!

An Open Letter to Our City Commissioners: We Need Visionary, Creative Solutions to Old Problems

We need a city commission that was born here, not on Uranus. We need a city manager that has the vision that exceeds the spectrum of the three toed sloth. We need an electorate that cares one whit about who gets elected and bothers to vote. We need, well.......WE NEED WHAT WE AIN"T GETTING!!!!!

Not a KU fan? No problem, we've got you covered for what to do when the Jayhawks play

And just why, pray tell, do we need this stupid republican rag to suggest to us what we need to be doing at all, any time, any place, any day or time???? Do they think we are so completely indolent that we, as human people, need to have some wreched excuse for a media outlet here to coddle our mushy brains into what we should be doing while a bunch of college age men run around a wood floor in their underwear and drop a ball through a hoop?

Does this paper really think that this is a town of people who are really that uninspired and not motivated by many, any occupations, motivations, hobbies, involvements????

And we pay good money for this sort of disregard and disrespect.
