Tailgating 101: How to get in your grub and good time before the game

Wow...that pig on a spit image is a terrible one to be using as your main attention-getter. I even eat meat, and I find that a turn-off. Just sayin'.

It's our fifth anniversary come June! Celebrate with us at the Jackpot! What's that? Not enough? Hm. How about baiowolf? Weird Wounds? Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk? Now THAT'S a party! Doors open at 8pm and music begins at 10ish!

What's more, we'll have Astrokitty t-shirts and coloring books on sale at this event! This will be your chance to proudly wear your love for Astrokitty on your person or during your gaming! DO. NOT. MISSSSSS!

Plus, of course, Joel/Joe will be on hand celebrating alongside ya'll!

Rumor has it Joel might even end up drunkenly accompanying himself on guitar by the end of the night! BE THERE!

Editors' note: Unfortunate changes in lawrence.com staffing

Wait...does barely using the site count as a boycott? If that's the case, then I've been showing solidarity for that cause for a while now!

Sorry, all the really meaningful stuff has already been said by people much more capable with their words than me. Er. My. Myself? Whatever. Now I've just been reduced to snarkiness.

As for Mr. Niccum...I like what he does. He also seems like a genuinely nice guy. I don't blame him or anyone else put in a position to replace/take over for the people who got the axe. I think we all understand this is a short-sighted management issue and a, as said before, likely just the penultimate death-knell of something that was once a unique, vital, interesting part of Lawrence. I am sad about it...but I've been sad about many of the changes that have seemed to damage the look/feel/intent/"soul" of L.COM.

I almost exclusively click on links Gavon supplies via twitter and facebook, following them back to L.COM. Otherwise, the only other time I use the site these days is when I'm using the event schedule...which is rare.

Editors' note: Unfortunate changes in lawrence.com staffing

Ugh. Not surprising because, as said in prior comments, this ship has been sinking for quite a while. I get that money is an issue but I wonder what/who could either have been cut instead OR if people that probably don't need as much $ could have taken a paycut instead so that people like Phil and Gavon could a.) keep providing us with entertaining content and b.) keep a couple of locals employed so they can stay plugged into what's going on and help Lawrence.com retain what little "street cred" it had remaining.

I don't use it much anymore except to check the upcoming events calendar because I've HATED the (now not so new) GUI since the first day it was unveiled.

As for Gavon, he should just go out there and pimp himself to every entertainment blog he can...he's very funny, whip-smart, and knows how to entertain. Still, it sucks major donkeyballs to be out of a job and as a friend of his I feel for him.

Lawrence Bingo Game in the Works

Who is "wendell"? We call "maraca lady" UNFORTUNATE CIRCUMSTANCES and her husband, the guitar-playing viking-looking dude with a cloak (all in black, actually named Sean) is BOLD CHOICES. Those are their spirit names. BOLD CHOICES would often buy Magic cards at our shop instead of, well, doing anything useful with it. Normally, I wouldn't balk at that...but he's homeless and his wife (the maraca lady) was pregnant at one point. I just figured he'd save his busking money to help her out. Seeing as how he did not...we figured that was just one of many BOLD CHOICES he's made. I have heard a lot of other stories about him...most of them unpleasant. He's such a trainwreck that it all comes together to make him an almost mythical character. He deserves to be on the list, whatever you end up calling him. I mean, he lived in his Trans Am for a while, for God's sake (which his wife bought him once her inheritance came through...what, you didn't know she was an heiress?).
