Best of Lawrence 2011: And the winners are...

Part of the problem with these things, too, is that if people vote on these same categories again next year it's likely that it will look exactly the same.

I've gone green. Green chili, that is.

Sorry. I'm a troll now. Found the definition for New Mexico chiles:
These large chiles are similar in size to Anaheims, but they're hotter. New Mexico green chiles peak in the late summer, while the hotter New Mexico red chiles appear in the fall.

We used to prep them every fall when I was growing up. The skins are too tough to eat so you roast them on a grill over flame to char the skin and cook the chile (you do this with poblanos too). Once the skins are charred you put them in an ice bath to peel the skin off. The rest of the chile you can use to make sauce, or just add them to whatever.

Now I'm done.

This looks delicious.

I would be remiss in my duty as a native New Mexican obsessed with green chile, however, if I didn't point out that this isn't actual green chile sauce... not that anybody really minds the difference. You made a sauce with anaheim, poblano and jalapeno peppers, which looks totally good.

Green chile is a specific kind of pepper from New Mexico, though. It's hard to find here. The gross stuff in the little tins is about as close as you'll find in Kansas. I bring it here from my parents' house. Sometimes Free State manages to find some.

Ok. Going away now.

Dear WORLD CO,

A well-deserved au revroir.

When three articles both appeared as features simultaneously both on lcom and the journal-world's website as they did yesterday, one of them being about some kid's lemonade stand, it really is over, I guess. They weren't meant to share content like that (much less AP feeds... an AP movie review and an AP story about soccer? wtf).

I don't hate other people's kids or the AP (that much), but this place was never about that sort of thing. I don't see how this is any different than the JW's entertainment section.

The lead article on the site is about CHILDREN RUNNING A LEMONADE STAND. Awesome. Goodnight.

I guess I need to pull my head out - it's been a while, but i didn't think people got moderated on lcom for simply swearing. I thought there was plenty of content on the site that had naughty words in it.

Not that this is the real problem anyway, though. Whatever.

Uhhhh....How does Matt get banned from the boards before Rob? Not that Rob should... It's nice to even see him on here. Just confusing. While we're at it, why'd Rob get edited?

Matt said it best. This site didn't get the support it needed for a very long time - from what I could see, it never seemed to be sold properly to advertisers (long ago I used to sell advertising for the Pitch) and when it was in print it was not easy to find a copy consistently. I remember hearing a story about an advertiser trying to tell a customer about a coupon that was in the paper and the customer literally couldn't find one. Getting some boxes out on Mass street never seemed to me like too much to ask.

I can't hold anything against Jon Niccum or Jon Kealing - I don't doubt this was a hard decision - WellCommons doesn't give me much hope, though. I already miss Phil and Gavon here.
