Theology on Tap

From the discussion leaders for June 3, 2010:

>
Hey folks- I am back from vacation and would love to see you all again. Tonight we have a couple of parables and one sermon of scorn that Jesus rains upon the peoples. The main questions we will look at are:

What is the sacred to you?
What is the sacred to Jesus?
What is the kingdom of God?
How do you notice the kingdom of God in day to day life?
How does it become a common experience for you?

Every Thursday night from 5:30 to 7pm people gather at Henry’s Upstairs to discuss theology.

Peace out-
Josh

The two parables are found in Luke 13:18-19 the Parable of the mustard seed and 14:15-24 and the admonition that follows, Luke 14:25-33

Theology on Tap

May 27 topic:

Hi everyone,

Hope to see you tonight at ToT--5:30 at Henry's Upstairs.

We will be looking at Luke 12:35-48, and discussing such questions as:

Does Jesus require that we're always working?

What does it mean to live in a consistently moral and obedient way?

DO you agree that "to whom much has been given, much is required?" in what respect?

Was Jesus predicting his return, or were people just making excuses about why he hadn't returned yet, and further admonishing others to "keep waiting?"

All this and more, tonight.

Erin

The Next Fest Thing

The latest from Falleaf on Friday morning:

Falleaf said the festival is proceeding as planned, although they may not use amplification, or keep it to a minimum. They've been warned by the sheriff that they risk a $500 fine for a major noise complaint.

Note: although this story...

...says that the festival has been canceled, that may not be the case. Organizers weren't able to secure a permit, which is why they've decided to eliminate or reduce amplification.

Looks like it was just temporarily down. It's back up now.

The Next Fest Thing

Update: The Tonganoxie paper reports that Leavenworth County commissioners today declined Falleaf's permit application because his insurance policy did not cover the county, only Falleaf LLC. Also, Falleaf had yet to provide the required security bond.

http://tonganoxiemirror.com/news/2010...

I called Falleaf to ask him about this — he said his lawyer was working to address the issues and the Falleaf was confident that he would be able to finish doing so today. He said they were meeting with a commissioner later this afternoon to discuss whether Leavenworth County's requirements for issuing the permit had been met.

Within Reach: Visiting 100 Sustainable Communities -- 05/20/10 at Liberty Hall Cinema

Received via email from Linda Cottin:
>
For those of you who have not heard, two young people have been biking cross country since October 2008 on a mission to visit 100 sustainable communities. Along their way they are creating a film about how sustainable communities function throughout the USA. On Thursday, May 20 they will be stopping in Lawrence and presenting an "Intro to Sustainable Communities" from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Liberty Hall.

When Mandy and Jeff heard about Cordley's Farm-to-School lunch on Friday, they re-arranged their schedule and we are excited to have them and their crew join us for lunch.

For more information on their project and the communities they have visited, go to:

http://www.withinreachmovie.com/WR/Ho...

Or better yet, join them at Liberty Hall Thursday night.

Theology on Tap

From the discussion leaders about tonight's topic:
>
Hi all. For Tap on May 20 we'll be looking at Luke 12:13-34, in which Jesus talks about wealth and material security. Prompted by a request to arbitrate an inheritance dispute, Jesus refuses, then tells a parable about a rich fool and argues against anxiety about wealth, advocating trust in God, a minimalist lifestyle, and generosity to the poor.

How is material wealth a problem? How best can we respond to this problem today? What might heavenly wealth mean for us?

If interested, please join us at Henry's upstairs from 5:30 to 7:00.

Best,
Nathan
