I second IHateJT's motion on No Country. Wanted to finish it before seeing the movie. I've got about a hundred pages left in McCarthy's Blood Meridian (as suggested by John B.) then I plan on taking a break from McCarthy for a while.
While I'm reading about the same amount as always, over the past couple of years I've been writing much more (although I'll grant that you have to use a pretty loose definition of the the word writing to apply it to what I do.
Joel, you've opened my eyes. There ARE more important things than tipping your waitress. From now on, I will think about important issues in lieu of tipping when I dine out.
Unbelievable. A day after reading this on your blog and watching the video, I hear the song featured as bumper music on an episode of This American Life (Episode #341 "How to talk to kids")
I don't know whether it's out on DVD yet, but you'll enjoy John from Cincinnati when it is released. Same writers/director and many of the same actors, and the wonderful flare for expletives.
I dove into Cormac McCarthy's The Border Trilogy. Finished All The Pretty Horses (excellent), about 20 pages left in The Crossing (not as good as the first book, in my opinion).
This discussion reminds me of that Star Trek episode where one guy was black on the left and white on the right and the other guy was white on the left and black on the right and nobody could figure out what they were fighting about.
Adieu, adieu, to you and you and you
Joel,
I'd say congrats but I don't want to be redundant. I'd say you'll be missed, but we'll all be checking you out in the new digs anyway.
So I guess all that's left is Merry Holidays and we'll see you when you get there.

Thanks.

Noted without comment
Is that a dude or a chick?
It reminds me of the feakouts by the overly-indulged in the late '90s when Kurt Cobain offed himself.

This is only a test
Hats off to your special effects makeup crew. They totally made you look like an old dude.

What I've been reading lately
I dove into Cormac McCarthy's The Border Trilogy. Finished All The Pretty Horses (excellent), about 20 pages left in The Crossing (not as good as the first book, in my opinion).
Cities of the Plain is on deck, and I must read No Country For Old Men before the movie comes out in November (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzRTuj...).
