Are you guys being serious? It's ONE song. 90% of all the other stuff they played was really good. I don't hold Tegan & Sara in a regard as high as Nirvana, but they rarely played "Smells Like Teen Spirit" towards the end. It was kind of their way of saying, "Jesus Christ, get over this song already."

When DGRE signed up for the Deadwood, none of us thought we would get in. Considering the amount of bands we knew would be pushing really hard for a spot, it seemed pretty unlikely to us that we would get enough votes. But we did. That's what it comes down to in the end: if you get the votes, you get in. Why should we have shame in that? People wanted us there. It's not like we came out of the gate taking this thing all super cereal, it's that enough people voted for us in that first week for us to go "Hey, maybe we have a chance." We are aware that we have been around for a few years and have had some opportunities, but we still struggle all the time to make music in a world that cares less and less about music every day. Every other band in the contest is doing the same thing. In the end, regardless of who's been around longer or who knew who from where, we're all unsigned bands looking for a chance.

I'm not sure what's up with the podcast thing. Richard Gintowt called me and asked me to come down to Lawrence.com, said that he was doing podcasts for all the bands. I got the impression they were all going to be done from there, but I guess that wasn't the case (I haven't listened to it yet). Maybe it was more convenient for everyone else to do it over the phone (I get off work early in the afternoon, so maybe I was the only one who could make it before 5). Who knows? But all this aside, why would this matter as far as who is getting more "attention"? An interview is an interview.

Niccum rules! Trust me, I grew up in Manhattan, where the local movie critic was (and maybe still is) G.W. Clift--what a choad! I never agreed with him, always thought he had terrible taste. Never thought that about Niccum, although I don't always agree with him either. But at least he digs down into the movie; he has an "ear" for them, and that's hard to find. We should definitely keep him in there!

Because you can't see them at a place like Liberty Hall in St. Louis or Omaha. Plus, fuck St. Louis or Omaha.
