Are you talking about Mr. Toomey? I went to Meadow View also. He wore a lot of cologne!

Molly McGee's

The sandwiches are huge, which is great. But the only thing I really like is the Molly's Turkey. And even that will not draw me back to Molly McGee's.

Three separate times have my husband and I gone in to eat and have been completely ignored by waitresses. After the first time, we decided to give them another shot (gluttons for punishment?). Maybe they'd had an off night, right? But it happened again. The third time, we were with other people (their idea). We waited for 20 minutes (and made eye contact with the waitresses and waved for service) and somehow no one even took our drink order.

Even the nights when we did get waited on, the service was awful. I was a waitress for a long time, so I do understand how difficult it is to wait tables. But that also means that I have no sympathy for waitresses who ignore the one or two tables they DO have just to goof off in the back. There's a difference between an aloof waitress and one who makes certain you know what a burden it is for them even to speak to you. Molly McGee's apparently employs the latter kind.

Aladdin Cafe

The gyro meat and the lamb kebabs are phenomenal. Lots of food for a low price: my husband and I actually split our meals and still get full.

The great thing about this place is that it's not too expensive to get adventurous and try things you've never even heard of. (I always hate to spend $12 on an appetizer I may hate, so at other restaurants I never stray from my comfort zone. Aladdin's Cafe has remedied me of this! Which is great, since their menu is varied and fantastic.)

On most nights the service is great. On some, it's horrible. The food and the atmosphere (and the prices!) make it worth it though.

A Sick And Perfect Life. . .

I LOVE the Colleen McCullough books, and I am a Classical Antiquities major. It could be because I have an all consuming crush on Julius Caesar, but could also be because she managed to make historically ACCURATE historical fiction. The lady did her homework. It was sort of like "I, Claudius"... only more salacious!!!

Aladdin Cafe

When I first moved to Lawrence, the Mad Greek was my favorite restaurant. My husband and I have been very disappointed in the quality of the Mad Greek's food over the past year (bland, prepackaged) and the service (with the exception of one or two waitresses, very bad).

Aladdin's Cafe beats the pants off of the Mad Greek. Their food is fresh and wonderful, and the wait staff knows how to recommend a good meal.

Also, my husband and I were able to gorge ourselves on entrees AND appetizers and ended up spending at most $25.
