I ate here and I think its laughable that this resteraunt was awarded best vegetarian eatery in lawrence for this year. They 2 maybe 3 vegetarian selection on their tiny menu, they are overpriced and i didn't even eat the leftovers of the soup that I took home. This place is all image no substance. I miss Lulu's.
Zs roasts their own coffee weekly and offers local ice cream (Sylas and Maddy's) and baked goods. They are by and large the coffee roasting and brewing experts in lawerence. Locally owned with 2 locations. They recycle and recieved an enviromental award for their coffee grind compost garden that contains native plants.
P.S. Omg I didn't know that about Einstein's brain...That makes my referance to relativity here even more interesting! Also...Don Johnson graduated from KU along with the guy who discovered Pluto and the people who discovered natural gas as a source of helium.
I think the fact that Lawrence was founded by abolishonists is very impressive :) And i think it has a lot to do with why the city is the way it is, too. Also the ordinance against hate crimes and descrimination based on sexual orientation :) (i'm not sure of the details of it). I also love the huge Wal-mart recycling center. The graffiti is also refreshing along with all the anti-war political signs. We have some great old houses. I think Lawrence's real gift these days is its acceptance and promotion of the arts. There was a great article in Harper magazine some time ago about how Lawrence was set to be the next Seattle! I bet you can still find it on-line. Lawrence really is one of the most well known places in Kansas. I'd also like to say that Kansas rocks beacuse we have a female democrat for Governor. Woohoo Sebilius! I was also espeically pleased that Jimmy Carter was in our city not long ago. Essentially lawrence is a liberal mecca. I just wish KJHK ever had any interesting talk radio. And how about all our protesters....Even the religious ones...God I love to see free speech in action. Thanks for reminding us why we're here, Joel (in Lawrence...and in the existential sense? A little appreciation sure goes a long way. We could even get into physics and the importance of the observer .)
Actually for about 70-80% of the population the switch is basically "down there" or in one of the 5 senses because that much of the population uses sensing to experience the world rather than intuition.
Sylas and Maddy's Homemade Ice Cream
Some Sylas and Maddy's flavors are also available at Zs espresso.

The two people from Lawrence who were on C-span today in Iowa at the steak fry with Clinton and all the democratic candidates!
