I, also, agree that voting for a third party is important, and didn't mean to come off too harshly if I did!
I know some people think a vote for the Democratic Party is pointless because they're kind of in the middle - not going to win, and don't really need the attention of a few extra votes.
However, some of us are diehard Democrats (just like those 50%+ diehard Republicans in Kansas). Though I support third parties and occasionally vote for them when I don't like either of the two main options, I will still vote for Democrats most of the time - and not feel like my votes are wasted - because they really ARE my candidate of choice (which can be rare these days). Even if a vote for them is a "wasted vote," I don't care, because genuinely I think they deserve my vote the most.
You say a vote for Barr isn't worthless for the same reasons a vote for Obama isn't worthless. Neither candidate will win Kansas, most likely, but just as your vote for Barr tells third parties that people are listening, and tells the two major parties that you are interested in other options, his vote for Obama tells the Democratic Party that people in a red state still care, and tells the Republican Party that not everyone here necessarily supports them. (This also doesn't even address the fact that HEY, just because someone is an Obama fan in Kansas doesn't mean they should have to defend why they're voting for them, aside from simply wanting them to be president!) I think a vote for Obama can be just as important as a vote for a third party for this reason.
Went to M.I.A. People were on the street begging for extra tickets. It was a really great experience - tons of energy and people really into the show who dressed up and/or just had a good time by dancing all over the place - but the music was a little disappointing. The acoustics were kind of shitty and M.I.A. and her backups didn't have very great voices. BUT! I don't regret going. It was pretty fun.
How would sources even find out what campaigns journalists are contributing to, besides this recent finding? I haven't seen any kind of news on this sort of subject before.
Also, I think most candidates are just happy to get any attention they can, unless it's with someone as polarizing of a personality as Bill O'Reilly.
I agree that journalists have the obligation to keep their personal opinions out of their work. But they are also voters, tax-payers and are affected by public policy as much as anyone.
Therefore, I don't have a problem with journalists contributing to campaigns and whatnot. As long as they keep it out of their articles and broadcasts, it should be fine.
The only wasted vote

Boycott Wha?
OtherJoel:
It seems like they have been reported by the way they include case numbers, no? But I agree.
Also, if that city of Lawrence sign is correct, then they already seem to have been in trouble for construction before obtaining a permit.
How long has this place been open? What construction were they doing if it seems like they've been open for a while?
