It was called La Tasca at the time...not Coco Loco.
Man...time sure has flown. I remember being about the 3rd person to walk in the door at the first NEON. Back when it was super 80's and super fun. The tiny stage next to the door, weird bar in the middle of the room, KJHK folks all over the dance floor, the B.O., the awesome fashion...
The people that got to experience that time in NEON's history certainly saw something special. Only a couple of regular dance nights in Lawrence have come close to the awesomeness of early NEON days.
Thank you Edwin and Stevie for doing your part in showing this formerly shy girl a great time!
wow, the style scout has become the most worthless part of the lcom. not that the rest of it isn't worthless either. the style scout used to be about finding someone with something unique going on. now it's all about....well...lemme find someone walking around that's breathing. yeah...that'll do.
the only reason i still read the lawrence.com(even after moving away two years ago) is because of Gavon's writing. there was no other point. especially after the style scout stopped caring about style and just stopped any random person on the street wearing a teeshirt.
Gavon will be truely missed. Sorry Lawrence.com..you have officially lost another reader.
my favorites not in your lists...in no particular order:
Half Baked The Wall Tron Tapeheads PeeWee's Big Adventure Koyaanisqatsi Buffy the Vampire Slayer The good, the bad, and the ugly The Last Unicorn Annie
the ones in your lists I do agree with: Dazed and confused Repo Man Willy Wonka Lion King Last temptation of Christ Wizard of Oz
do you remember Bryan Stupareks 3D art show at the Pig? it was all stuff in lawrence. My two favorites were the mens and womens replay bathrooms. truely excellent.
the best part...in one of the pictures you could read 'fuck paul flinders' written on the womens room in mascara. brilliant. Paul loved it!
how about Tapeheads??? This is one of my favorites and includes cameos by: Junior Walker, Sam Moore, King Cotton, jello Biafra, Weird Al Yankovic, Ted Nugent, Doug E. Fresh, Michael Nesmith, and maybe more.
such a great film...seriously...john cusack and tim robbins in like 1988. Geeks. Love it!
