Review :: Kelpie, "Hey Friends, It's Kelpie!"

I have to agree with the reviewer. I've heard Kelpie in concert and although they are incredible musicians and songwriters, their music is a bit unnerving with its constant key and rhythm changes.

It's like you want to tell them to settle on something for awhile before they prance onto something totally disconnected from what they just did.

Confusing at best to the casual listener, but still Kelpie is solid band.

Best of luck to them!

Wow, very intelligent countROCKula. Do you have to work at being obnoxious or does it just come naturally? Your parents must be very proud of you!!

I guess there's always got to be a few loose nuts behind the wheel.

For the rest of you, keep your tongues away from countROCKula and continue to SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC. After all, it all begins locally.

Stupidity is free as well, but what has that got to do with anything. Some people ought to get out more!!!!

Girls in the Boys' Room

I've always been mystified by the low number of females performers active in the music scene. That is probably why so many of the male dominated bands have sounds that eventually morph into sterility (no pun intended). I've watched bands like Aubrey for instance; evolve from just another local band to a totally new level by looking inward as to what was the missing piece of their puzzle, emotion. I'm not trying to stereotype females as tamers of "testosterone gone wild" male bands, rather as guiding influence that says, "you know what guys, maybe there's another way, a better way to do this." That is the positive aspect of encouraging more and more women to get involved.

On the negative side, however, there are always going to be the women who have an axe to grind or are out to prove something. Not that I mind initiative or strong independent female performers, but from an audience and consumer perspective, there is a fine line to walk between acceptance and alienation that for the sake of other women trying to enter into the business, should not be crossed. It's tough enough for females to be accepted as legitimate and serious performers without their sisters going before them throwing virtual bombs and landmines to pockmark the path to success.

Hang in there girls, but always be mindful of the ones who may want to follow in your footsteps.

Aubrey / Box Social -- 12/18/04 at Jackpot Music Hall

I've heard these guys, better catch them while you can for a $3 cover, next year it may cost 10 times that amount. The buzz is out, this band has star material.
