Zen and the art of bicycle commuting

I almost got hit once biking through the roundabout at 19th and Barker. The only thing that saved me was because I yelled to get the driver's attention.

Don't be afraid to yell at people who don't notice you!

History repeats itself in KU's loss to Northern Iowa

i like how you broke down statistics and calculated hypothetical points down to the hundredths.
or, you could just say
"i don't care who you are, if you only play with intensity the last three minutes of a game, you cannot expect to win."
it was a coaching failure, pure and simple. if self had gotten his team to play the entire game the way they did the last three minutes, it would have ended up being a blow out.

Society, Love and the fear of Loneliness

Speaking directly to your post, you are right, staying emotionally distant/indifferent/detached is not going to work. The trick is to grow in love first, THEN fall in love. The trick with that is not to grow in love with someone until you have weeded out all of your "dealbreakers". (http://dealbreaker.tumblr.com/) How many of us have gotten months or years into a relationship and found out something about the other person that we could not get over? (ex: not wanting to get married, not wanting to have kids, etc) Find out those things up front and don't think you can change the other person!

Society, Love and the fear of Loneliness

Tim, have you read All About Love by bell hooks? Here's the Amazon link - http://bit.ly/bellhookslove

Nhat Hanh takes a 10,000 foot, ideal approach about love centered around buddhist teachings. While hooks speaks directly from the "trenches" in this country, offering insights from her (outstanding) research and her less-than-ideal real life situations. Definitely worth a look in my opinion.

Shop like a dietitian: We ask Lawrence experts how to make healthier choices at the grocery store

Slowly reduce bad items from your diet. I love cookies, but for the past year I've slowly stopped buying them. Next up, potato chips. Both were integral ingredients to every lunch, but soon they won't be there at all!

I don't get the Prego, I get the Cupini's pasta sauce.
I buy the milk from Kansas, not from who-knows-where.

Remember, your dollar is your vote. Buy the food you need, but if you can afford it, buy the fresh local stuff.

Call to Action - Help me open for KISS!

I'm reminded of the plot from The Rocker. Here's to hoping (SPOILER) KISS gets caught lip syncing and the crowd calls you back on. Hahaha.
