To say that I am an original at Neon would be an accurate statement. I have followed the party from its humble break out beginnings and really USED to enjoy going. And I will say that its hay day is when it was at LaTasca... I followed it to the B-neck but refused to go when it was at Granada for obvious reasons, then they realized that they couldn't draw a big enough crowd to fill Granada they went back to b-neck.. And now finally returning to what is now Jackpot.

I will say that when I first started going to NEON it was to hear and dance to those killer 80's tunes that made it what it was, a fun night. People used to actually get dressed up, make connections, and truly enjoy themselves. Even when they started to mix in some other stuff it was still fun.... But now, I kinda feel that it has lost its soul. With the departure of Konsept I find that Stevie is reaching for something and doesn't have a tall enough ladder... I love ya kid, you have done a lot, but I have even told you to your face that I think NEON is dead... I try to come back to hear Koncept every once and awhile, I dig your new vibe and appreciate you bringin it back, you are the only light this "party" has goin for it. Maybe it’s just because I am getting older, but the idea of dancing with a bunch of 18 year olds, who consequently don't know how to dance, just doesn't appeal to me any longer.. It's my firm opinion that after what, 8 years, it’s time to finally call it quits...

The Barrel House

So I had heard mixed reviews about this place and decided to check it out Saturday night... It was a HUGE disappointment to say the least. First off, $4 bucks to get in the door... And for what? A guy that can hardly play the piano and can't sing to save his life. Secondly, $6 bucks for what was suppose to be a double, when I went back for a second drink I asked if he could make it a little stronger than the last and the bartender basically told me to get out... Talk about a major let down. I love how the place looks, they did a great job on the remodel, can't wait until a good cool downtown bar goes in there... I give this place maybe another 4 months of operation before they shut down, unless they actually get some talent and some bartenders that actually know how to make a drink!

Louise's Downtown

I hate this stupid bar... It is filled with nothing more than douche frat guys that can say little more than DUDE....

Plus the bartenders are mediocre at best... Can you believe I had to explain to this girl bartender what a double Beam and Coke meant....? And that is after you have to wait the 15 to 20 minutes for them to actually help you....

I give them a 2 out of 10.. Much better times to be had elsewhere in Lawrence!
