Prices are comparable with other sushi restaurants in Lawrence, but the food and the experience are on a completely different level. Don't even think about asking for a california roll. Go for the chef's dinner and let Chef Suken show you what sushi ought to taste like.
Free State is a standby. Everything on the regular menu is at best a classic and at worst a decent meal. And when you've tried everything on the menu at least twice, the specials are always something to look forward to. Then there's the beer. Mmmm, beer.
Got to say I loved the food. Great idea, great experience. I hope it does well.
Got to say though, the prices left me feeling like I made a charitable donation. I understand it's got to be a little more since they've got to go out of their way to wrangle all the different suppliers, but when a cheeseburger and fries costs $10, it's only so far (and so often) I can extend my support for a local labor of love.
