Behind the music

What a great story. Nicely done. I love his show, but hate it when I see pictures of radio personalities. It deflates the imagination.

Spilling into Lawrence

More to the point: too often Lawrence.com seems to be writing for itself instead of its readers, which, as a faithful reader, I think is a mistake. The Q&A is a good example of that, in my opinion.

Although, it is good to know I can go elsewhere for my music news and notes (reminds me of the scence in High Fidelity, when Jack Black tells Rob, "I know we don't have any customers, but I thought that was a bad thing, not like, a business strategy."

You guys do a great job of covering local music and culture (and despite your, uh, policy to always be local, i've also enjoyed the write-ups of national acts, particularly your Ani review, which I agreed with). It just feels too inside at times.

Spilling into Lawrence

Can't we all agree that Lawrence is a great place and move on? I enjoy the site, and love coming to Lawrence, but enough with the endless narcissim. It's boring. I know the comments were from Doug Martsch, and not L.com, but questions like, "Seems like you would do two shows in KC, but instead you chose Lawrence" are clearly leading questions. And where do they lead? Ah yes. Lawrence.com's favorite subject: The Wonderful, Magical World of Lawrence and all its small-town, big-thinking open-minded charms. You had the opportunity to sit down with the leader of, at the very least, an intersting band, and all we get here in print is more blah about the glories of Lawrence. Isn't that Joel's territory, anyway? At least his praise is measured and heartfelt.
